Anyone think theres a chance of GM updating the gauges to something usable ?

Recommended Posts

Or are people just abandoning hope and getting a Scangage3 or IDash setup ?

My gut feeling is that GM wont invest any time or effort on it and we are stuck with the seriously deficient stock setup.

Since I use my truck primarily for towing I need to see as much data as possible and am really interested in knowing what gear the truck is in.

I've got my dash configured to show transmission (left in the center of the speedo), tire pressure (right in the center of the tach), oil pressure, tire pressure, coolant and fuel all at the bottom.

Not sure what else one would want on a gas truck?  Gear indicator, eh.  You drive them long enough and count them a few times while driving and you get a pretty good idea.

Diesel guys, a regen indicator would be nice, not gonna lie.

For me the gauges on the bottom row are useless other than the fuel. The volts is a guesstimate between 9 and 19 (which proved worthless when the battery crapped out on mine) the coolant temp is a guess and the oil PSI is a guess. If they all came with a numerical value like the trans temp I have in my right middle I would at least be satisfied. GM has a history of dumbing down gauges specifically the coolant temp. My 2005 Dmax would be running 219 and the gauge was stuck on 195.

I just expect more on an HD truck, this isnt a soccer Mom car.

Even if they fixed the unserious current gauges I still want oil temp and IAT on top of current gear.

I'm hearing that Ford has tightened up some things for 2023 Super Duty where Forscan doesn't get everything as customizable as before. Not sure, as I don't know anymore that has gotten a 2023 yet.

It would be nice if GM would allow you to at least switch the tachometer and speedometer locations on the newer trucks! 😁

Did you go and get the SG3 yet?

I have oil, coolant and trans temp, intake temp, cat bank one and two temps, fuel volume, load%, throttle percentage, HP and TQ(although taken with a huge grain of salt)voltage, oil pressure and a ton of mileage and cost calculations and plenty of other stuff. I know you can track misfires and other stuff. Not to mention you can make custom colors (I use red and white to match my old school analog gauges) and can fit up to 9 gauges on each screen and a total of 3 screens to toggle between.

I was just looking at the SG3 on Amazon.  Where did you mount yours?  Do you have a pic?

I can take one tomorrow but it comes with a window suction cup and it is magnetic. I put mine in the very bottom left of windshield so the sg3 is basically wedged between the A pillar and where the dash rises up for the gauge cluster. Fits nicely down in that corner. The wire runs easily down in the crack where the dash runs down along the door.

That's where I was thinking you put it due to the OB2 hookup.  They are kind of pricey but probably well worth it.  I think it was 269 on Amazon.  Is that a good price?

I bought it directly from sg for 225 but it doesn’t look like they sell them on their site anymore, I just looked. It was 250 and they gave me 10% off “for being a repeat customer” since I’ve had a couple other sg products.

I just went on advanced autos site and it’s 299 but an offer for 15% popped up if you give them your email. That would be 255. Plus they ship free. I’ve used them before.

I should have gotten one by now but life keeps getting in the way, a crappy fridge thats on its 3rd service call (dont buy LG) and an $1100 vet bill last week have pushed the SG3 back a little.

I am anxious to see the mounting you came up with. What Pryme describes is what I had envisioned.

Pics up. Also I took the 3 pics with the 3 different screens I customized. There are plenty of other gauges that could be configured to each persons liking.
