Headers: long tube vs shorty's

Recommended Posts

Hey all. First post in the group. I have a 2018 sierra with a 6.2l

Recently added an airaid MIT with a drop filter, got a diablo custom tune from "diablew", and have a magnaflow race series exhaust with resonator removed.

Figure my next best bang for my buck for performance would be headers (unless there are other suggestions which I'm all ears)

From what I read, long tube provides more horse lower in the mid to high rpms, and short provides more low end tourque... is this accurate? What is my best bet for max performance for my money. I don't race or do any track stuff... just a daily driver but I want that nice glue to my seat power every now and then... which option will I feel the most?

Shorty headers are a complete waste of money. The factory manifold does in fact flow very well, look at how much power a stock camaro and corvette make, those run factory manifolds.

It's long tube headers or nothing. You will want to get a set with cats otherwise your exhaust will be so loud you will hate all the drone and rasp it has. But even with cats you may still want a resonator to tone it down some.

Yeah, shorty's are a waste, I did long tubes on my 2018 (w/DOD delete), 3" single out the back, I used my factory cat's, have all 4 O2's, 22" Flowmaster, and Resonator, (my wife says it's too loud!!), it's got a little rumble. Now all that said, you will get some lazy O2 codes and you might need to invest in a HPTuner system. I'm trying to "Retune" mine for P015B, P015D codes but not having any luck yet (Cam if you have any suggestion, let me know) so I may have to delete those codes.
