Really high road noise 2019 Trail Boss

Recommended Posts

From day 1 my Trail Boss has had a lot of road noise. I assumed it was due to the Goodyear Wrangler Duro-Trac tires which were more aggressive than any other tire I've owned. I never got used to it and notice the loud whine every time I drive the truck. I am now wondering if there is something else contributing to the noise although not sure what that might be. Any known issues with this series truck that could be contributing to excess road noise?

Dura trac tires do run noisy. Are you rotating every 5000 mis?

I am probably rotating closer to every 10k miles. In fact they are getting rotated today. They have developed some increased inside edge wear on the front tires. But they have been noisy like this since the beginning so wouldn't think the noise is due to wear patterns. But hell I can't explain it so who knows.

I have 42000 miles on my 2022 LTD Custom Trail Boss ( 2.7L). The factory Good Years  are somewhat noisy but will scream at you if the toe adjustment on the front end wears a bit and loosens from factory adjustment so you have negative toe, that wears the inside of the front tires and it will cup a bit on the Dura-trac tire design.

I add 480- 720 lbs of sand tubes weight to the bed for off road, snow ice and mud here. That takes enough weight off the front end that the toe returns to neutral.  Rotate the cupped tires and they will wear into neutral and it quiets alot.

There is nothing by design any of this is happening for the trail boss chassis. Just a Chevy 4WD that needs some stabilizing weight in the aft of the unit.

Its very likely the Duratrac's.  I actually ran the old MTR's on my Tahoe which were decent tires and moved to the Duratrac's I thought for better mileage, but was shocked at the road noise that actually got worse than the MTR's over time. As the others suggested, the alignment and frequent rotation is really important.

Dude it's the tires.  100%.

I put a set of Trail Boss wheels and Tires on my 2019 Tahoe.  Loud as ******.  Didn't really pay much attention to it until I replaced them and then my thought was "Why did I put up with those garbage-ass tires for so long?"

They suck.
