tow mirror issue

Recommended Posts

recently, i have noticed my driver side mirror shaking much more than it used to. come to find out, it seems to be getting "dislodged" from its "track." meaning if i extend the mirror, it will "pop" and reset itself. after it will be solid again. the first time it happened, i thought maybe someone had bumped it in my driveway. but it will happen even if the mirror is folded in.

the only thing i can think of causing this is the rough roads here.

has anyone else experienced this?

thoughts?

anyone have something similar?

seems like it is happening more often.

mirror seems to "dislodge," extending and retracting it resets it. It will "pop" similar to when the power fold function resets.

is there anyway to tighten them up? I really don't want to take it to the dealer if I don't have to

thanks

It happens to me as well…after a few drives it starts to shake/rattle. A quick extension & retract fixes the problem, but it’s annoying all the same. I also made a post about it a month ago and never got an answer if there’s a way to actually tighten the mirror.

When you say a "quick extension and retraction", what portion of mirror are you referring to.....actual mirror glass moving it left to right....or the extension slide when used for towing trailers?  Thanks!

my driver's side mirror is shaking and rattling so bad i think the mirror is going to come off when i hit minor-medium bumps and shakes and rattles moderately on small bumps/imperfections, mostly on maintained dirt road but sometimes on pavement.  i talked with the service manager and showed him a video, and he said it's normal.  he has a 2022 and it does it.  they did say they will look at it but i don't expect anything.

Passenger side mirror is solid.  My 2020 would do it on rare occasion and only with a significant bump.

GM reached out to me a while ago, as result of a survey I responded to, and asked me to send a copy of the video to them.  haven't heard back.

Update: Service manager drove my truck and said mirror shaking is horrible. After a little back and forth with GM it was approved for replacement and is on order.

Manager said besides the mounting bolts there is nothing to tighten or adjust.   And apparently the mirror is a reasonable $1300. 😳

I have a '24 and drive on rough roads regularly.  The wobbly, rattling mirrors are driving me crazy.  I had the drivers side replaced under warranty, but it stared doing it again after about a month.  Sent a video of the problem to GM and no response.  It started with just the drivers side, but now both sides are doing it.

I've got 2024 2500 also.  The Mirrors shake horribly when going over a washboard on a gravel road. The dealer said it's normal and if they touch it and break something it's on me and the warranty won't cover anything.   So far not overly impressed with the quality of my truck/service.

My 2022 2500hd passenger side mirror just started shaking horribly while driving. It is very distracting. I live on all paved roads, so I’m not sure what caused this issue.  Is there any fix to this issue.

I am having a similar issue when going down the road and hitting bumps.  It is very concerning when it comes in so much that I can no longer adjust and lose the ability to see next to me.  This is a safety concern since it also causes my side alert from working.  This usually only seems to happen the most when I am towing since the mirrors are extended, which also makes it more of a safety issue.  It seems to reset when I stop and get out, but the last time this happened I could barely see out the side since it was so far out.  The only way I was able to reset it was when I folded the mirrors in which seemed to reset the driver side correctly.  Any ideas or what I need to tell the dealer when I bring it in would be very helpful.

I have a 2023 with shaking mirrors too.   The video I posted is the 3rd set  if mirrors the dealership has installed.  It is currently getting a new set of mirrors installed.   Has anyone found a fix to this?

Is that not normal? My 2024 does that on severe bumps and I just figured it was designed that way. Kind of like a bridge having some flex to withstand forces. Since these are so long with just one point of attachment they might want it to bounce like that? I don't know, though.

Well, well well. I have the same issue with the drivers side as well. On rough roads it shakes so bad it looks like its going to fall off. My mirrors are not extended in tow mode either. If I grab the bottom of the mirror frame it easily moves up and down. The passenger side will not budge- totally solid. I was planning to bring this up at the next service. Interesting how so many of these issues with these trucks repeat (upper glove box latch, drivers side running board lights failing-I know, I know totally first world problems) and now drivers mirrors.
