2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD rear end clunk

Recommended Posts

This topic has been discussed plenty of times but I thought I would post this to potentially help somebody solve the issue with their pick-up in the future. 2024 2500hd 6.6L gas. Just hit 1000 miles. Noise can be described as a hollow clunk when turning at low speeds. It happens exactly as the rear first rear tire starts to go over the bump. I tightened the u-bolts holding the leaf springs to the rear axle. I believe the torque specification is 60ft/lbs + 130 degrees but I don’t know how you’d check that with a torque wrench without starting from scratch. All I did was use a 1/2” breaker bar and was able to comfortably get an 1/8th of a turn on all the nuts. Noise instantly went away. Luckily I used to be a technician so I crawled under the truck to diagnose it but it’s crazy to think that some people would either live with the noise or take it to the dealership thinking they bought a lemon/POS. Knowledge is power I guess! Truck has been great otherwise so no complaints. Hope this helps someone.

Mine is also doing the same thing, really noticed it once the undercarriage was fluid filmed. Am going to try and pull it in the garage tomorrow and check u bolts. Seems to be getting worse especially after recently hauling a gooseneck trailer #4000.
