AAAAAAAAAHH!

Did you ever have the fluid replaced at all in it yet during your ownership?  There's widely known issue with the original fluid they used up to about mid 2020 in where the fluid absorbs water and can exhibit a rumble strip sensation.

For them to go to the converter, that means the slip speed observed is worse than the rumble strips concern, or, they are jumping the gun straight to a converter without trying fluid first.

Wasn’t that fluid Dex6? I thought by 2019 they had already switched to the Mobile stuff.

Nope.  The original formula of Dexron HP.  There were 3 versions of HP.  The original one was AC Delco Dexron HP, which was then replaced by Mobil 1 LV ATF HP with the black label.  That fluid didn't work so then version 3 is Mobil 1 LV ATF HP with the blue label.

So would my 2019 probably have the original HP?  My trans is mostly fine except for the hard 3-1 or 2-1 downshift.

Unless its been changed, you'd have version two of the fluid, black label.  Version one was factory fill in the prior gen trucks, 2015-2017, maybe some of 2018 or so.

It’s got 19800 miles, I’m the second owner. Bought it with only 11800 miles.  Nothing in the service history shows anything but oil changes, so your probably right with the black label stuff being in there.

Should be 2nd version.  The 3rd version went into production fills starting end of March/beginning of April 2020, so all 2019s and some 2020s can experience shudder from the 2nd version fluid (black label).

What gets me is GM specifically stated when they brought out the "all new" Silverado that the 8 sp was redesigned.  All the problems they are still having, seems they didn't do anything to fix the problem.

What? GM lied? 😱

They changed only a couple things on it.  Biggest being the CPVA (Centrifugal Pendulum Vibration Absorber) torque converter.

The current version of fluid (M1 LV ATF HP Blue Label) didn't hit production fill until about April 2020.

The first true redesigned 8 speed is actually the one in the Colorado/Canyon and the TurboMax equipped full-size, the 8L80.

As the title says I’m extremely disappointed with GM and this truck. I only have 72,000 miles on this truck and the torque converter started shuddering yesterday. I was praying it needed a fluid flush only, but the dealer said it needs a new converter at a price of $2,800 plus tax. WTF!!!?? This is unacceptable! I don’t even tow a camper or trailer! Within the last few days I started getting transmission shudder and was praying it needed a flush only. GM should be paying every cent for this train wreck of a transmission. I’m holding on to this thing until next year and then bye GM. Lost another customer for life.
