2023 AT4 Questions

Recommended Posts

Hello All, it's been a while since I posted.  I'm seriously considering upgrading to a '23 1500 AT4 with the 6.2.  First question I have is about the tires.  These trucks are coming with either 265/60/20 mud terrain tires or 275/60/20 all terrains.  The truck I'm looking at has the mud tires which I don't want.  Will I have any issues swapping these out to all terrain tires?  Just curious why they are using two different sized tires.  I'm guessing the trucks are no different.  Maybe because the tread is deeper on the mud tires?  Next questions are about the engine and transmission.  I've heard and read on these forums about lifter issues.  Is that still a concern with the newer engines?  How does the 10-speed transmission seem to be working out.  Does it seem to be holding up better than the 6-speed?  Thanks in advance for your answers and any help will be appreciated.

10 speed is good.

Lifters.  Much better.  There was a known bad parts streak on them in the 2020-2021 build window.

6.2.  There's reports of some 2022s with major bottom end failure at low mileage.  There is a PI (engineering bulletin) on this, it does cover 19-23, crankshaft bearing failure seems to be the possible culprit.

Tires.  The LT265/60R20 C load is the Goodyear Territory MT.  Load index is 110.  In 265/60R20, there are only a handful at best of those in a standard P load tire, the rest are all E load.  Falken Wildpeak AT3W is available in P265/60R20, load index is higher than the factory tire (Falken is 112) so it would be acceptable to use.  Otherwise, 265/60R20 is a 32.5" tire, 275/60R20 is a 33" tire.  This would be an acceptable change, no need to reprogram anything (at the most 1mph off at 60mph).

I put Toyo Open Country AT3 285/60/20’s on mine like 3 days after I bought it. Mine came with the 265/60 m/T’s and were noisy as hell. Night and day difference with the A/T’s, and no speedo issues. Confirmed at 60 and 70 with Waze and were dead on with speedo.

I went with it and am a proud owner of a new AT4.  Premium package, Technology package, Sunroof, All weather mats, engine block heater(I’m in south Louisiana, it’s 100+ degrees but whatever), 6.2, Summit white.  Sticker was $75,250.  They took $8,100 off.

And yes the Wrangler MT tires are a bit noisy and I don’t need them.  All terrain tires in the very near future.

I think you did well getting $8100 off sticker.

First off, Congrats on the new truck.  I hope to own an AT4 someday, just hoping the prices settle down somewhat. I bought a 2018 Sierra Denali Ultimate with the 6.2 back in July of 2019.  Here in Canada, dealership only had 3 trucks remaining.  Two in White Frost Tricoat, and 1 in Onyx Black.  As much as I love black, I went with the White Frost Tricoat instead.  No longer have that truck and kicking myself in the ass everyday.  I can't believe they discounted in $8,100 off MSRP ?  I have been hearing stories of people paying over list price for these trucks because of availability ?  Hopefully, the lots start filling up with inventory and some better incentives come along.  Enjoy that beautiful new AT4.

Thanks for the congrats.  Yes, I think that much off is great.  They were advertising $6K off.  I looked online throughout the southeast and Texas and saw around 5 dealers that were advertising that much off.  I contacted many that weren't showing a price and most were wanting sticker price or at most offering a couple thousand off.  I'm hoping things get back to somewhat normal with lots of inventory and dealers willing to deal.

I bought at Ross Downing in Gonzales, LA.  They also have a dealership in Hammond, LA.  They have similar discounts on SLT and other trims.  Yes I was offered great financing through GM and they were willing to combine them.  I did 72 months at 4.9.  That’s a great rate right now.

When looking online I also ran across Rivard in Tampa, FL.  They are also advertising $6-7K discounts on trucks.  I’m willing to take a trip for the vehicle I want at the right price and I’ve done it before.  It just worked out great I only had to make a 30 minute drive for this one.

A few more questions and/or observations:

It appears there is no HD radio for FM stations.  A couple of other threads seemed to verify this.

I also found a couple of threads about the A/C fan turning itself down just after startup.  Some of the comments mentioned this happened while running the system in Auto but mine is not in Auto and it still happens.  Not a huge deal as I just turn it back up but is there no fix for this?

On my old truck I was able to browse through XM radio and see what songs, games, etc. were actually playing on the channels.  In the new truck I can only browse the channel numbers and names.  Is this correct or is there a setting or fix for this?

I've read the owners manual and it mentions "Sport Mode" "Snow/Ice Mode" and "Terrain Mode".  All I see when I turn the dial is "Off Road" and "Normal".  Are these modes just for the upper models (Denali, AT4X)?  Once again not a big deal if I don't have those modes.

I'm used to pushing the talk button and saying to call a contact in my phone.  Google tells me to turn off Apple Car play to do this.  Maybe Google and Apple don't play nice with each other?  Or am I missing a setting?  Also, it seems a lot of Google features will probably not work once my 3 years of connected services ends.  I understand this is the model now, to keep subscription service fees rolling in.

Terrain mode is for 4×4 (takes place of " 4WD lo" on non z71 or x31 vehicles

Snow and ice is 2wd truck feature

I had RST and elevation and they had sport mode....

When I use talk button it actually kicks Android auto on automatically.....believe all my trucks did this
