taking gas from truck for generator?

Recommended Posts

I thought about that myself. 4 vehicles and can’t get gas out of any of them. My generator will run 18 hours on one tank. I bought several syphon hoses and non will go down the tank. So luckily my brother gets different sizes of drums up to 50 gallons. I’ll grab a 30 gallon if a tropical system heads my way. Leave it in the avalanche fill it what’s left after put in the avalanche. I read somewhere you could access a fuel line tee it hook a line turn on the key. Didn’t like that idea. I’ll stick with the drum idea.

Theres usually a Shrader valve in the fuel rail. You could access it there although it would be under a lot of pressure.

I would find a different alternative.

I keep a couple of different 5 gal jugs on hand. One is specifically for ethanol free gas and thats all I use to top off my generators (which are always kept full) along with using only E0 in the fall for any gas powered item I have that will be stored for the winter. Through the summer I have a jug of regular E10 that I use in the mowers only. All of my 2 stroke engines get E0 no matter what time of year.

I stored most of my equipment for a year while I built this house in 2015 and everything required carb work or overhaul due to E10.

I run my generator once a month for an hour. My lawn mower and generator can have pump gas in as long as 6 months. My wife’s Acura usually has gas in it a year being driven 20 miles once a month. It’s a 2001. The only additive I use is stabill. We only recently got an ethanol free gas station. So far stabill has been enough.

I run my generator twice a year.  About 15 minutes in June when we fuel it up for hurricane season and for about an hour when we put away in November after hurricane season.  We keep the jerry cans all fueled up during hurricane season and then one or two small ones in the off season for emergencies.

We can pull fuel from the fuel rail with an adapter and hose and use the Tech-2 to command the fuel pump to maximum output and fill up the jerry cans if necessary.

The mower, edger, chainsaw, generator and trucks all get fed 93 octane gas.  Owner's manuals say it's ok and preferred for the small engines.

We use Wavian 20 and 10 liter cans, made in same factory taken over by the Germans in WW2.  The flexible spout empties a can in seconds, not days like those Obama spouts.

Obama spouts lol. I gave all those gas cans away and bought motocross race jugs like I used when I raced but I now use them for all my equipment. Screw off the top and let it rip. No waiting or slowing of fuel ever. Been using them exclusively for many years now.
