Is this Oil OK To Use in the Duramax 6.6

Recommended Posts

6.6 Duramax uses CK4/CJ4 oils so whatever the latest diesel spec is.  Nothing special.  They don't follow a GM Dexos spec.  This info can be found in the Diesel Supplement manual in the engine oil section and fluids chart.

If temps around you are 0F and above you can run any CK4/CJ4 15w40, if you see below 0F you can use a CK4/CJ4 5w40 instead and you can still use that year round.

This oil has a strange odor to it, It smells like it has a solvent in it not like regular oil.

Sounds normal.  Diesel oils aren't blended the same as gas engine oils, and synthetic will smell different than conventional.  Amsoil is one that has a very unique smell to it for example.
