Youre wrong. The T-case has power running through it no matter if in 4wd or 2wd. It only engages the front driveshaft when in 4wd.

I did say I might be an idiot.  I learned something new today.  I figured it iterated like a light switch.  Off when not in use and on when the switch is flipped.  Thanks for educating me.

The transfer case was in 2H. It’s grinding because there’s “a capful” of fluid and metal in it from all leaking out. The original dealer that gave me the BS was able to get a tech to look at it first thing before telling me checking fluid is part of maintenance but again the truck is new. I can understand checking the engine oil but transfer case fluid is nonsense.

I did not think to originally call GM. It’s getting moved to another dealer here in Orlando this afternoon but they are making no promises to get to it before next week. The picture shown is where the fluid is leaking from. Right where it mounts to the transmission.

I have been informed I was inaccurate in my last post because my understanding of the system was inaccurate.  I apologize.

So I never updated this with all the hassle of vacation and dealing with the dealer. A new transfer case was put in the truck and all has been well since then aside from the transmission mount bolts not being fully tight and causing a vibration when cylinder deactivation kicked in. One last parting gift from the knuckleheads in the service department I guess. GM rep was kind and seemed to take our side since I'm assuming they have logs that would tell them it wasn't shifted into 4x4 at highway speed like was suggested.

Brand new 23 1500 Z71 currently at the dealer with a grinding transfer case while on vacation. Truck is just under 4000 miles and dealer is saying it barely had any fluid and won’t be covered for lack of maintenance. I asked where it says in the manual I’m supposed to stop every 50 miles and check fluid levels in a new truck and the service writer got smart with me. I saw fluid covering the underside of the truck when we stopped to check the noise but there was no way I was going to spend the night at a gas station in BFE with my family and continued on to the hotel since it was so late. The actual leak looks to be coming from where the case mounts to the transmission at that gasket.

Will any 2 speed transfer case from 2019 and newer fit or does it specifically have to be fit a 10 speed transmission? If I can find one a local mechanic said he can get it replaced in two days. What a HUGE POS!!!!!

No call gm customer service!!!! This has been a problem with them. No this is their problem!!!! Also look up the Lemmon law in your state. Send a certified letter to Gm customer service!!!! This is all under warranty! Even if it leaked out all under the vehicle…. Still their problem!!!! Gm customer care monitors these boards!!! Hey GM WHERE ARE YOU!
I’m a tech snd I worked for GM for many years!!!! Send them a certified letter explaining this situation!!!!! Google the customer care for the address!! Keep me informed!!!

I wouldn’t touch anything under warranty. I had a transmission line problem on a 94 Ram diesel. The line was fastened by clips instead of bolting together. The clip would vibrate out and leak transmission fluid. The first time was on my first trip home from Florida. Pulling into my driveway the transmission was slipping. It was at night. When I checked it at first light at my shop across the street the under side of my truck and tail gate was covered with oil. The dealer put another clip in filled it with fluid sent me on the way. Now I’m not confident in the truck with that set up. And with the transmission after it being run out of fluid. It had that burnt smell. I could have easily remedied the problem just by changing the lines to bolted lines. That would give them an excuse to not cover the transmission when it failed. Because I messed with it. After 18 months of the line failing and eventually the transmission slipping they gave me my money back as long as I bought another Ram. A V-10 with a 5 speed. My first event was under 2K miles and continued to almost 45 thousand. Sometimes I would just leave the truck with them while I used my old one hoping they would bless a modification to eliminate the problem. Instead they gave me back my money.
