Nav sd card not recognized

Recommended Posts

GMC Sierre elevation 2021 2.7l engine

So I just bought a nav sd card from gmnavdisc.

I inserted the card before starting my truck.

Start my truck and nothing shows up on the screen except a notification to click to remove sd card safely.

So I try to click on the nav button at the bottom of the screen and I get the msg that app uses the Onstar sys.

So I try GMC map+ and I get the msg that I need to be connected.

I don't have an Onstar plan, GMC support told me I could use the sd card without Onstar.

So anyone knows what I have to do to make it work?

I live in Canada.

thank you

Just a wild guess here, and I could be wrong, but I suspect your truck came with the SD card reader but the radio isn't programmed to do GPS.  Mine, 2020 Chevy Trail Boss LT, came the same way.  Navigation in my truck was was turn by turn instructions without a map.  OnStar's benefit with the sd card navigation system with maps would be for live traffic updates and alerts.  Maps+ is different and requires OnStar.  You may want to check to if your radio is an IOS or an IOT.  IOS I'm likely correct.  IOT I'm wrong.  I upgraded my radio to run navigation off the SD card by having a 3rd party company download the software after I sent them a module.  It took about 2 weeks.

A popular one on this site is WAMS (White Audio and Media Services, or something like that, goes my the screen name Cam GTP, iirc).  He may come in here to post a reply.

Another one I used, and had a good experience with, is www.gm-navigation.com.

QR code on label at bottom post can be read with a phone camera.

Order code for radio probably on it (IOS, IOT, IOR, etc)

Any dealer can pull/print a build sheet (for your vin) that will list the order codes for everything the truck was born with.

Do you run a smartphone?

If so you can use googlemaps.

Googlemaps will re-use downloaded map information so that it can function even if there is not a cell signal available.

Maps can be 'preloaded' to the phone from a wi-fi connection so that phone data doesn't have to be used.

I have a '22 Sierra, ordered without OEM Navigation. Purchased the appropriate package from obdgenie. Requires an IOS system and an SD card slot, although if you do not have the SD card slot, they offer an additional piece of equipment that takes care of that. You get the SD card and a programmer which you temporarily hook Ito the old port during set-up. Has worked flawlessly, but you do miss the speed limit indicator unless you also have Onstar. The only mystery, to me at least, is the version I received indicated a different model vehicle (Denali, if I recall correctly).
