Loud Pop Crack On Acceleration & Felt in Steering

The last few weeks, about 1 mile down the road after starting the truck, typically on a slow speed smooth highway on ramp, wheels straight, lightly accelerating, the truck will startle the driver with a very loudly pop or crack, which can also can be felt in the steering column.  Sounds like its coming from the engine or deep inside the dash somewhere.  Has happened now in a similar situation about 5 times.  Had a repeat CEL for misfires off and on for over a year when new, but after multiple crankshaft and camshaft position relearn procedures, a TSB to relocate a wiring harness and multiple reprogramming efforts, the CEL hasn't showed up again.  Didn't know if the pop/crack could be a misfire and the CEL just isn't activating, or if its something in the dash or steering column.  Anyone here experience this, or have any advice?
