Cheapest EV. The Leaf at $28,500. Cheapest Nissan Versa $15,800. Just a bit over half the price. Oh, tax credit? $7,500 so the Leaf is still $21,000. Government gives a tax credit and the OEM's swallow it whole leaving the buyer nothing but an illusion. And still overpaying. :wtf: Shameless. :nonod:

I will drive gas until they become extinct new, then go to the used market where honest thieves live. :crackup:I expect I'll be dead long before I run out of options.

I shouldn't have looked.

Most of the gas powered Nissans are closer to a disposable appliance than a car, and the electric ones are even worse. Depreciation is nuts with that brand. Can get a first gen Leaf with less than 40,000 miles for under 6 grand. If they weren’t so dull and ugly they would be appealing at that price for something to get around town in.

But buying one new would be suicide. I think the same for any EV though. Still in that early phase where improvements will be exponential.

I saw a guy at the station one day with what looked like a new first-generation Ford Fiesta. It wasn't. I had over 300K on the clock. HOW we care for a thing has much to do with how it performs. Some new things though are a bust no matter how good you care for them. Nissan CVT's when they first released the metal belt versions were awful. But so was the Iron Powerglide. Today they last pretty good. Not my first choice but not as scary as they once were.

I bought a Mazda M2 Coupe a few years ago. They never sold them in the US you say? Scion iA is that car. That car was a gem but got zero respect from anyone. I traded it for Pepper. Kind of wish I'd kept it and bought Pepper outright. That ****box of a car, people would call it, is a durable, reliable, economical and comfortable as a guy could hope for. And now? Discontinued.

That was the opinion on Hyundai when we bought our first one in 05. My grandson is driving it now. We wouldn’t have bought it without the 10-100K warranty. Our fourth and latest just passed 130k. Compared to our odyssey. The Genesis was cheaper to get there. Both needed 100K maintenance. The Honda needed a timing belt and a complete brake job pushing the Honda higher in maintenance so far. The first Hyundai needed a transmission rebuild at 1800$, CV joints at 100K a timing belt at 60K miles. Those cost were way cheaper than Honda as well as the initial purchase price. If you saw the 11 Genesis in person you wouldn’t believe how well the paint and leather has held up. It’s a looker. As far as Nissans being a bad investment. The truck warranty is much better than the rest. The least pampered more rugged individual who is more interested in driving. Then gizmos may want to give their full size truck a look.

Wife’s Kia was perfectly dependable but rust was getting to it on the rockers and underbody. I did what I could with the Fluid Film over the years but I think it was just cheap metal and not properly designed or treated at the factory. Had a VW 10 years older with 4x the miles and it had no rust whatsoever. German cars don’t do everything right but their paint and rust protection is the best I’ve seen. Got her a Tiguan and the build quality so far is excellent.

The domestics could really learn a thing or two from them. My GMs have all had orange peel from hell, and ripples in all the panels, especially the bedsides. Ram is a little better but far from perfect. Had some panel fit issues I fixed myself. Hood and door alignment / adjustment. I don’t mind perfecting things myself.

Never had a Nissan but my buddy has leased a few. Frontier currently. Their trucks seem to be good. Older designs, not a lot of fluff. Kinda how Toyota was before they re-did the Tundra (and Tacoma now too).

My brother and sister in law both bought new VWs in the last year. Very nice vehicles.
