Bent bumper impact bracket

Recommended Posts

I bought this truck over a year ago and let the excitement get over me and now I finally decided to dig into another sore eye of the truck because I noticed the tow hook was bent downwards and my bumper alignment is completely off. Point being I took the bumper off all the way till I got to the point where there’s a bracket welded onto the frame. From what I can tell, fingers crossed. It seems to be that just the bracket is bent. I am wondering if taking it to a shop

to get a new one welded on would have any problems with the clean title or anything. Should I bring this up with the dealer I bought it from as it wasn’t disclosed? Thanks

I attatched the only photo I took, I know should’ve taken more but I wasn’t thinking at the time. But the top and right side of that bracket is bent inwards

My understanding is that if there is an insurance claim made, then it eventually ends up in an insurance database showing accident damage and this would probably be considered frame damage as it is a welded piece to the frame. Then there is a strong chance of it showing up in a CarFax report or a AutoCheck report. But this would have no effect on the title. Title problems come up if a vehicle has enough damage that the insurance company declares it a total loss and then a salvage title gets issued. If it gets bought by rebuilder and rebuilt, then a title will reflect that. In your case especially with a minor issue, if it is taken to a place to get fixed and the owner pays cash, it stays out of the insurance database and therefore should not show up on a CarFax or AutoCheck report.

As far as the dealer not disclosing damage, the dealer may have been unaware. The previous owner may have been involved in a minor scrape and never got it fixed for whatever reason or told dealer about it when it was traded in. If it was minor and not reported to police or no insurance claim filed, there would be no record of the damage and therefore would not have shown up in a CarFax or AutoCheck report. And maybe it was something that wasn't very obvious so dealer didn't pay attention to it. Another thought is that the dealer who bought vehicle from previous owner decided they didn't want to put the vehicle on their used lot so shipped it off to one of the large auction houses and your dealer acquired it there. Then your dealer would have no info or even know anything about previous owner and could only go by what they found in a CarFax or AutoCheck report which for the reasons I mentioned above, may not show anything about it.

Floor jack and a block of wood might bend it back up.
