Sunroof not closing - 2015 Silverado

Recommended Posts

So I have an issue with my sunroof no longer closing on my 2015 Silverado that I could use some advice on. The sunroof started not to close this morning (the day of writing this) but finally shut, thankfully, after holding the button for a sec longer, right before a fairly decent storm. I thought maybe the button was going out, or I wasn't pushing long enough to engage the window while traveling down the highway. Fast forward to the afternoon; out of habit, I hit the button, and now it's permanently open. Thankfully, it is/has been sitting under a carport, now with a trash bag covering the roof in the doors. Pulling it tight took just a sec to figure out how we were going to pull that off. Thank goodness for the automatic up windows.

I did try doing some investigating on my own. I like the term YouTube mechanic, haha (at best). But I was able to track down the wiring schematic for the entire truck and found the connector pins. I believe it was 3 or 4 for the automatic close signal and the ground on pin 7. Using a jumper, it clicks, but there's no movement.

So what I'm looking for (if anybody has any advice) is it possible the switch is just bad, or does that sound like the motor?

If it is the motor, does anyone know where it's located? My assumption is it's, of course, above the headliner, but looking at 1A autos explanation and breakdown, I basically need to pull every part out of the cab short of the dashboard and maybe the steering wheel. Jk, but the process looks intense.

Assuming this would be a dealership fix, if I have to have someone else do this, which I'd imagine is two weeks of waiting and way more than I want to pay.

I'm new to blogs, so if this is a little lengthy, my apologies. But any advice, thoughts, or direction would be extremely beneficial.
