Transmission jumping from park to drive

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, slightly annoying problem with my 2018 Silverado 5.3 6spd.  (35k miles)  when stone cold and I go to drive or reverse for the first time it does a bit of a jump into the gear. After that one time it's good for the day. If I hold the brake enough it's almost unnoticeable but if someone else drives it it seems funny. Is this something resetting the computer could help? Other than this is drives great.

Drained the pan, new filter, ran for a day and drained pan again. Filled with Valvoline max life.  Also deleted the trans thermostat when I purchased it at 14k miles. Temperature was never really an issue for me though

Sounds like you're doing the right things. I did the same on my '17 Silverado with 6L80 transmission @ 32k. I had a similar shift in my transmission when 'cold' or first drive. I personally think it has something to do with the pressure shift valve(s) but I'm no transmission guy, just an old retired plastics tooling engineer. What I did to help that shift (not saying it's correct) but I added a bottle of LubeGard transmission fluid additive, either the Platinum or Red bottle. It won't hurt anything to my knowledge but have been told by several 'old transmissions mechanics, that this helps the seals & makes them "more slick" so to speak.

Anyway, that's my store & what I do/did.

Good luck & keep the forum updated on your progress.
