People make the biggest deals over the stupidest stuff. One mistake over a refund and you’re warning people against using a dealership? By your logic every store in the country should be out of business. Geesh.

Really? I've contacted them three times over a two week period requesting that my credit card be refunded. Each time I was assured that it would be done promptly. Do I believe they do this to everyone that deposits for a new vehicle? No. Do I think this may have happened in the past to someone who has purchased a vehicle here and then overlooked their credit card statement and paid an extra $1000.00 for their vehicle? Possibly.

They sell 700 new GMC's per month. They have great deals. I'm not warning people against using them. Just a word of caution if you do. I guess your expectations of professionalism in expensive transactions differ from mine.

One of your issues is the finance guy was on vacation during a holiday week.  Sounds normal to me.  One of the problems I see with your situation is that you're too demanding.  You get more stuff done with positive results when you exercise a little patience and understanding.  Sheesh!  Everything you said indicates the sales rep is trying to help you out.  If anything, your post has made me want to go shopping at Laura GMC because they didn't simply blow you off.

To provide nothing to this thread, I have put a deposit down using my CC or Debit card. I made sure to inform them before signing anything that I did want my deposit back and for it to not go toward the deal. They have refunded me before I left the dealership, or shown it by receipt or purchase papers.

While OP's issue might be a little much for some to understand as its only a G toward an assumingly 55k+ truck, its the principle. I am bit different, I would not wait for my statement to come to notice that, I would ask for a receipt asap.

The title is an over reaction, I was expecting a story of a trash truck or a lost in transit truck or the sales guy being a complete nut etc.

I am surprised they would accept a credit card at all on a motor vehicle even for a deposit, due to possible charge-back.  I tried that once in Michigan but they would not take a credit card.  This almost always results in a fee to the merchant by CC company.  Chargeback if often used to defraud the merchant as they have discovered, some CC issue it without substantiation.  I know, I accept CC and been warned by my service provider on chargebacks.

I've purchased 11 vehicles from 6 different dealers in the last 20 years.  Used a credit card for the deposit on every single one.  The amount they will let you charge seems to vary but not one of them said 'no' to a cc.

x2 - I always put the deposit on my best dividend CC.  Then when closing, I'll put as much as I can again.  For the 2023 RST, I was able to $5K each, for a total of $10K which was a healthy reward.  No doubt this is a dealer by dealer thing, but if you break it out between doing the max for the deposit and then another during the close, sometimes you can get double.
