Where to purchase spark plugs?

Recommended Posts

Sounds like a stupid question. I buy most things online like everyone else BUT I when I seldom buy parts for my Silverado I usually go to the dealer down the road if I want guaranteed OEM parts. However, I know their plug prices are going to be wild so thought I would check here for any trusted sites to buy genuine plugs. I say genuine because Im not trying anything else after getting more than 90K miles of perfect performance out of the original set and still going.  2019 Silverado LTZ 6.2

Thanks!

I buy most parts at Rock Auto. They carry GM OEM blue box at a huge discount to the dealer. Most of the time you will have many brands to choose from but they flag the OEM parts and tell you which of the three GM levels it is. I use NGK. They are the OEM supplier for ACDelco and I buy the double fine wire Iridium or Ruthenium. I like the latter as the resistors are exact and on spec. ACDelco is a range. Pretty wide range too. Well over 100K on the NKG's. Did about the same as the OEM first set. Browse the site. Delivery is really good with these guys and while I've only had one issue with them they took care of it immediately and correctly.

Spark Plugs are not really a wear item.  You should check them at 100k miles, but I wouldn't replace them unless they were showing signs of being fouled.  With good fuel you should be able to get double that easily.

On my first long range spark plug vehicle when it hit 100K miles. My shop owner friend said the same thing. Trading in at 180K same plug. When my daughter had her timing belt replaced on her odyssey they said plugs were due. I said hold off. Not long after in the middle of the night the check engine light started flashing it was running really bad. It cost 400$ to get it towed in. I guess if they’re easy to change and you carry the equipment to test and identify the bad plug. Don’t mind changing it on the side of the road. Then ride it out. I wasn’t available to say just drive it in.

Many fleet 4.3 Express vans over the years, factory AC plugs start misfiring at around 140k miles. Some would go a little longer.

Easy to change for another 100k miles of use and issue prevention. It's not like having to pull the intake off like on a 3.6 motor vs changing plugs on a LS.

I change front O2 sensors when I do plugs, I've had sensors slowly degrade also losing some MPG.

Be careful buying parts on Ebay or Amazon--depending on the seller/supplier, there have been tons of fake Chinese counterfeit parts sold there, especially filters and tuneup parts--the parts and boxes appear to be the real thing unless you hold the authentic part right next to it.

I have not heard of any such problems with RockAuto, and parts stores (O'Reilly, Advance, AutoZone, etc.) and of course, your dealer service dept., should all be safe.

Caveat emptor.
