2015 Passive Lock and Alarm

Recommended Posts

2015 LTZ. Had some kids break into my truck the other night.  They didn't take anything which is weird but it did get me to thinking.  I've had trucks in the past that auto locked the doors.  I checked the owners manual for this and apparently its called "Passive Lock" which I figured was just turned off.  So I'll go ahead and turn that on for my forgetful brain. Low and behold, I go through the infotainment system and cannot find the option.  It is literally not listed in the "Remote, Unlock, Start" section of settings.  Am I missing something here?

Also, I've noticed that the alarm doesn't go off when I try to open the door and the doors are locked.  I do this all the time when I'm outside and need to grab something, then realize its locked and run inside to grab the key fob.  Shouldn't the alarm go off if I'm trying to open the locked doors?

I think that passive lock option is in a different pull down menu.

Also, iirc. the alarm usually doesn't go off until the door(s) are actually opened.

Passive lock is the keyless entry and push button start deal.  You'd have those little silver buttons on the door handles which allows for keyless locking and unlocking and then would have passive lock in where as you walk away with the key, as the remote gets out of range the doors will auto lock.  Or, as you approach, they will auto unlock.

2014-2018 Silverados did NOT have passive lock/unlock/keyless access/pushbutton start, so you won't have passive anything.  The Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Escalade did have it.

As for you grabbing the handle and the alarm not going off, that's normal.  The alarm will sound if there is entry when locked.  Try this to test it.  Put your driver's window down, lock the doors and wait a couple minutes.  Then, using your hand, open the door through the window using the inside door handle.  The alarm should sound.  Same thing if you open the hood with the doors locked it will sound the alarm.
