Just hit a new best of 32MPG with my 5.3

Recommended Posts

OK, sure, it's just over a 25 mile range, but it's still the best I've seen in the 28k miles on the truck so far.聽 I'm not sure what changed, but recently my mpg just seems better. Overall, I'm still at 17.9. I'm curious what others have seen as their highest recorded mpg. I hit this 32mpg on my way home from work last week,聽 it's actually 110 miles round trip from home to the office and back, mostly on back roads and in sport mode, using cruise control at about 60mph most of the time.聽

I tried my best never to reset my 2nd trip meter for the life of my truck, half way in the dealer reset after some warranty repair... pissed me off but here's still a respectable number:

That would piss me off!

Did you have the information turned off in the information page selection list?

I've been using the information page selection list to 'turn off' trip 2, thinking it prevents accidental resets in service or by other drivers.

Since at least 2015, I've had no 'trip 2' resets.聽

It still records even when not enabled for display, so if I want to see the data I turn it back on, read the data, then turn it back off.聽

Anybody know if there are service procedures / updates that cause reset to the DIC data?

That was taken a couple year ago.. a long drive from Dana Point to LAX Airport. 130 miles roundtrip. Not a diesel either and this average was based on 50 miles so that wasn't too bad. CC was set at 60 mph and the speed limit ranged from 55 mph to 65 mph.

Pretty good for a 5.3 with 4x4 though...

my commute is from Dana Point to Hollywood every day. 60 miles one way with very little slow downs, 60 miles back with stop and go (2.5 hours to drive it)

You live in Dana Point? I have a house there, don't know if you've seen my truck around, it was a 2019 Cheyenne RST 4x4 with Mexican plates, it spent most of its time in Dana Point though.

I drive my wife鈥檚 car every Sunday to church. After I put gas in it. When I get in usually it says 19 miles per gallon as her weekly average. I baby it home anticipating the lights gentle on the gas pull in the garage at 25 mpg. It鈥檚 good for a laugh.

I remember my first 5.3 powered Chevy pickup 2001 Z71 ext cab. Back then we had to do mpg the hard way... Well the first time I penciled out 20mpg overall on a 200 mile trip, I hung the gas receipt with the miles and result on the fridge.聽

That鈥檚 pretty good. All the Z-71s I had came with 373 gears. My 02 avalanche at 70 gets 18 mpg with the same gear.

Mine was 3.55s聽 and that trip was a mix of 60 and 70 mph. Also mind you that was back before our gas went to sheet with our base gas still at 87 octane and one of additives being banned by epa
