Silverado making popping noise while turning

Recommended Posts

So I got a 2022 refresh high country. 3400 miles and it is already making a popping sound while turning. I notice it the most in reverse going slow and when cutting the wheel sharp right or left. I also notice it other times but it is consistent while in reverse. Could this be the ball joints or cv axle? There's no lift on the vehicle so I find it strange to be happening so soon.

My 22 Elevation is doing the same thing since 10k miles. I have a 3” leveling kit new UCA and 23 trail boss sway links (2” longer than stock elevation) but mine is so inconsistent that can can’t get it to happen when I try to. Sometimes it’s every couple days sometimes it’s every couple months. The only constant is it happens in reverse going slow while turning the wheel. Happens more turning left than right.

My 2023 Silverado LT 4WD has done this from day 1 with only 7 miles on the odometer.

Primarily in reverse when turning wheels but more specifically I hear it when also compressing suspension at same time like backing out of my driveway which is on a slight incline.

I thought maybe it was some control arm or other suspension bushings settling but it hasn't stopped.

It's not as bad as a sway bar link noise or bad control arms but it is definitely there.

Checked toque on everything suspension related (control arms, struts, sway bar) and they seemed fine.

Maybe it is something with a CV axle ... seems early on for that to be an issue but hey, my new truck as been leaking engine oil since day 1 so a bad CV axle wouldn't surprise me.

So far the dealer has replaced the tie rod and tie rod ends. The popping is still occurring. Got to find time to be out of a vehicle for weeks on end in order to have them diagnose it again.

I had something somewhat similar - ended up being a piece of the steering column. I believe it was a TSB. Vance in Guthrie did it… Go Pokes!

Mine is a composite mono-leaf rear suspension so that won’t work. Plus the noise definitely comes from the front . You can hear and feel it. Im betting the dealer tires to blame the leveling kit in my instance.

Yes they will as it's a suspension modification that they didn't install and your wasting your time taking it there. Also the dealer will flag the truck in there computer system and other dealers will see the flag and refuse suspension work due to it not being dealer installed.
