I had installed a Vortex cat back system on my 88 K2500 about 2 years ago. I ended up replacing the vortex muffler with a glass pack (vortex muff cracked). The catalytic converter also looked a little used, so I decided to replace it later. I put a Catco HP Converter on the truck (direct fit, Summit Racing, $106.00) The engine just came to life!! The sound is great and the power difference is very noticeable. This is an emissions legal mod and pretty cheap and easy. Don't stop at the Cat!!
