2024 Brake controller Problems

Might be a better idea to put in a diode instead of a disconnect.  That way power can flow from the truck to the trailer but not back the other way.  It will help keep your 12v system on the trailer charged and working if you forget to turn on your solar.  Not sure what, if any, 12v loads you have when rolling down the road, but my trailer has a 12v fridge, so we like to keep our house battery in tip top shape.

valid point - and considered that.  I don’t have any 12v loads while traveling with the current trailer.  Fridge is propane or shore power.  I do agree that your suggestion is a better solution.  May indeed do that.

Opened the bulletin today and it has been updated to include the terms "trailer with a battery" instead of just solar/generator.

Fix is to replace the brake module with an updated part which I'm pretty sure is just the old brake control module from the previous trucks.

Thanks for this. Towed the camper for the first time with the new 24’ this weekend. I had the same issues as everyone else. I’m glad that I had already read this thread. I would have been upset if I had been caught off guard. Luckily I only towed about 15 miles to a local campground and back. I printed this out. I am going to take it to the dealership with me this week.

The fix is the trailer brake power module that was on the HDs in 2023.   The light duties are currently building with this part.  The models that are affective are:  2024 HD, 2023 mid size truck, and GMC Hummer.

Do you know where the brake power module is located? Just wondering if it involves tearing up the dash or center console.

So after 5 visits to the dealership to include a chevy engineer, it (being trailer disconnect) might be solved.  They installed a 2023 brake module and a software update.  Drove 45 miles without a problem.  This weekend i will travel a bit further to make sure it works.  My vin number is the lead vehicle on 23-na-149.  I like the truck and i hope i dont have to go any further with lemon law.

I tested a theory today based on the new information about the trailer voltage and the solar panel charging issue. When I first hooked my 2024 truck up I had a number of lighting error messages and difficulty getting the TPMS sensors to pair. After reading about the issues here I decided to test the trailer again. Normally the trailer is stored in the pole barn and it is plugged in to 110V power all the time including if its parked outside occasionally. When I got the truck the trailer was outside but still plugged in to 110V. This means the converter was float charging the 2 12V batteries on the fifth wheel.

Today I disconnected the trailer for a few hours and pulled the truck back under the trailer and connected the 7 way and everything works perfect.

Hard to believe that the electrical engineers didnt understand that many RV's have solar that will charge them when not hooked to anything.

Edit,  I want to add that I also changed the cord end on the trailer to a Pollak brand plug. It was a relatively inexpensive mod and my goal was to pair the plug and the receptacle using the same brand components. (GM's parts are made by Pollak) 20230602_194215.jpg

Do you have a copy of the 23-na-149 bulletin?

I had the same problem, 2024 chevy high country and new momentum toy hauler.

Drove from michigan to sheridan wyoming with trailer brakes going in and out.

Had dealers in Des moines, north platte and loveland CO that could not fix the problem.

Then while i was in sheridan wyoming the mechanic found a bullatin #23-NA-113 that states all 2024 2500 and 3500s have an issue if you trailer has solar panels.

I unplugged my solar panels and have no problem since.

That was around July 15 and now its sept 13th and have been traveling all this time.

Can't believe till this date they have not solved this problem.

I know I'm late to this discussion and admittedly have not read all 6 pages.  My 22 has never had this problem even though our camper has a solar panel.  Is it safe to assume this was an update on the 23 and 24's that's causing the problem?  And if so would this update apply to my 22 so I can tell them hell no!!??

Went to the GMC dealer for service yesterday and asked about the bulletin and if they had updated info from GM.  Got them to print out the new updated bulletin.  Looks like they added in some 2023 models to the list.

Correction for the issue is listed as "Replace the trailer brake module with updated part", and lists the part number as 23306694 for (Sierra HD) which matches the 2023 brake controller.  I had them order the part and will have them put it in when it arrives.
