2023 Blacksheep?

Wishful thinking on my part. But what’s the probability that new ‘23 trucks will get passed over for a ‘24 model with the 10 speed by perspective buyers? Resulting in ‘23 trucks getting discounted pricing to get them off the lots.

Random thoughts while I couldn’t sleep. Opinions? Thanks…

The 25 model will have a new state of the art 21 speed built by world renowned manufacturer HUFFY. It will now say huffy 6.6 liter instead of Alison.

Just hoping as the next few months roll along as I prepare to buy a new truck that I can get a '23 for a few dollars off msrp because it "only has" the 6 speed. Unlikely, since the HD truck market has so much pent up demand within 500 miles of my location. Wish in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up faster...

Nah, it wouldn't be discounted because of the transmission, rather, being of leftover model year.

I think the change to the 10 spd and the new electronics has diminished the desirability of the 23's

There are still 23 HD trucks around here and most have some discount off MSRP. Not to the point of pre 2020 but I am seeing some dealers wanting to move the 23's to make room for the new trucks.

The 6 speed is more desirable in my opinion.   I hate how the 10 speeds drive, and those 10 speed allisons are just ford 10r140's and are very problematic transmissions.  The 6L90 is a much better transmission.

I prefer the 6 speed for my own reasons. It's also cheaper to repair/replace out of warranty if need be.

Also, from what I have read the new 2024 models will be updated OTA (over the air) which means that if you want to have any mods which require the ECU to be reprogrammed then the programming for those mods can be reset at any time. Depending on the mods installed that reset could potentially kill your engine.

If you never plan to modify your truck then it's not an issue. But I don't keep stock vehicles very long. Once I throw that Whipple supercharger on my truck the 6 speed is going to be more than enough.

The 6 speed also handles more power than the ford 10r140.  With a speed limit of 100mph on these trucks you don't even ever use more than 3 or 4 gears as it is.

My newer stuff has 6 speed transmissions it’s more than enough. My avalanche has 4 speeds. At 180K miles I’ll be much happier with the repair bill if it goes bad. For cruising at 70 mph they all seem to be cruising at the same RPMs.

Yep.  The 10 speeds constantly shift up down up down trying to find a gear and they can never hold a gear either making it a nightmare in the hills.  Wish GM would stick with the 6L90 for these trucks.  Good luck to those with the 10r140!  High failure rate with those transmissions.

You're confusing the 10 speed collaboration between GM and Ford on the half-ton platform. The HD Allison (GM Built and Allison signed off - not a true Allison) 10 speed in the HDs is a different platform entirely than the 10L80/10R80 transmissions.

I just traded in my 2021 GMC Sierra 2500 gasser for a 10spd equipped 2024 silverado 2500. I loved my 6L90, but mountain towing and a few other towing scenarios left much to be desired. So far I am very impressed with my 10L1000 during break-in. No constant shifting as you stated, with a much more desirable driving feel.

I'll be hooking up to some loads in May and will keep y'all updated. I felt as though I did enough digging to realize the minor issues with some 10spd's in the duramax 2020-2023 platform in comparison to how many trucks with that transmission are on the road with no problems made my decision easier.

We all are biased to what drivetrain combo we own and drive. I personally think GM should offer BOTH the 6spd and 10spd in the gasser because they both are great options.

The 10L1000 is a Ford 10R140.
