The crack has grown to about 7" now. It is almost exactly in the middle of the windshield running horizontally under the mirror. I'm just going to have it replaced.

It doesn't cost me anything to have it replaced, so I'm going to try another OEM windshield and see how it holds up. Judging from this thread, there doesn't seem to be many people having issues, so maybe I had a bad windshield.

You know what?  Why not mix things up a bit and go for the aftermarket one?  Why not?  It's not costing you anything so what the hell...it might be better....who knows right?

If I don't like it then I am stuck with it for a least a year, unless I want my insurance rates to go up. I get one windshield replacement per year with no penalty. Since nobody else is really complaining about the stock windshield, I'll try another one before I write if off.

I own a few classic cars and I clean the windshields with Stoner Invisible Glass, it works great. However on the new vehicles the glass just does not clean as easily.  There is like a film or coating in it. Trust me I have cars from 1959 to 1996 all GM cars. A 1978 Cadillac Coupe Deville, a 1970 GMC truck, 1959,1964,1977, 1984, 1992 and a 1996 all Oldsmobile 98's. All the glass cleans like glass should or at least like it did all my life. The newer cars GM, Toyota, Honda and a Mazda the glass like resists the cleaner, the wiping off is like there is a glue on the glass. It does not wipe as easily. Try it unless I have special newer cars.  I suspect like everything else they are making it different or cheaper.  This still happens with Windex too.

I love stoner glass cleaner. Best stuff. And yeah, it’s almost like you can see where the wipers have wiped and stopped. Like a cleaner resistant film.

Just bought a 2023 Silverado. Compared to my last trucks (2004 & 2016) I do believe there is a problem with the windshield glass. I was wondering if it could be the angle too since the body style changed. Never had a small rock from the shoulder make a crack like it did on this new truck. Then I started to notice there are small chips from debris. I haven’t had a rock pop up that I was like damn that’s going to leave a mark, just road debris that sounds like rain leaving small chips everywhere. After our winter storm this week I came out and noticed a 1” horizontal crack on the inside close to the defrost vents. I don’t keep anything inside my vehicle that would cause this. I’m going to reach out to the dealership tomorrow.
