Newbie to the board here & a Hypertech III quest

Recommended Posts

Hi folks-

I'm a newbiee to the board as of today . I was referred here by some peeps @ LS1.com. I've been a member there about a year.

Here's the situation:

I bought my truck new (2000 Chevy Silverado, 1/2 ton std cab 4x4) that is currently pretty much stock, enginewise, cept for one kinda major thing.

We had a pretty big tax break available here in late '00 that gave a healthy discount on new vehicles if you converted them to run on Propane or Gasoline. My truck basically is a dual fuel setup.

I had a rough idling problem about a year ago, that when I took the truck back to the dealer, they told me they had a "silent recall" of sorts and reprogrammed my computer with new fuel maps. It's ran great ever since. Last week, I installed a set of 285's on it. I couldn't be happier with the improvement in looks. I got a Hypertech programmer that a buddy wasn't using (he converted his truck's programming back to stock). I wanted mostly to calibrate the speedo, but some of the other adjustments on there seemed pretty cool.

Here's where it gets strange.

When I try to hook up the Hypertech unit to the truck, it goes through a few screens, then tells me that my programming has been changed, then it searches for a while (about 10 minutes) then comes back with a screen that says "Calibration not found" Please call Hypertech with an 800 # after it. So, I called them, and as soon as they found out I got the programmer from someone besides a retail store, they shunned my off pretty quickly. They basically told me there was nothing they could do to help me.

I feel like the problem is either the dealer reflashing my PCM with the fuel mapping update, or my propane system.

Does anyone have any advice for me? Thanks for any feedback.

Matt

Your correct. The program the dealer flashed in isn't reconigized by the Hypertech tunner. Happened to me a few times over the years with Hypertech's after the dealer has flashed an update. Have your buddy that you got the Hypertech from call and say the update was done on his truck and use your VIN, maybe that will work. You are still going to have to ship the programmer to them so they can upgrade it.

Good Luck!
