BG1934
To start out, I have always owned Ford truck. I saw this GMC and really liked it so I went out of my comfort zone and bought....Boy did I screw up!!!!! 4 months ago I bought a used 2019 sierra with 50k miles on it. The truck looks great and runs great. The problem is that after driving it two days i noticed a large puddle of oil in my driveway. It wasnt there after the first night. I climbed under the truck and looked to see where it may be coming from. It looked like the dealership may not have tightened the oil drain plug correctly. From what I could tell the oil hadnt been leaking long. If the dealership was able to clean a long lasting oil leak, the guy that did it needs a raise!!! I took the truck back as it was still under warranty. 4 months later I still do not have my truck back. GMC is claiming it is because of parts. They say the alignment pins for the trans were bad and that caused the rear main seal to leak. I have contacted GMC customer service all the way to the top as far as I can tell (who knows who you are really taking to when you contact corporate). I just find it hard to believe that not one set of alignment pins are available when they are still building trucks. I feel like I am getting the run around here. Im at the point that when I get it back I am taking it straight to the Ford dealer and getting rid of it. Has anyone else experienced anything like this. If so what was the outcome? What might be my next steps to get something done with GMC? The pictures are of the truck and the oil leak from underneath the truck.
reeseb
It sounds like something that could happen to any truck regardless of the the brand and Chevy is having an issue obtaining the parts to fix it. Be patient and you'll get your truck back.

newdude
The lower oil pan on 19-22 of these 2.7s have a known leak issue. Requires replacement of the lower oil pan. Also, the oil coolers can leak. I haven't heard or seen of any that needed a rear main seal yet though. The alignment dowels aren't on backorder. At all. The rear main cover is on backorder however, which the seal is a part of so that's likely the holdup. BG1934
I am being told specifically that its the alignment pins. The cover and seal assembly has already been replaced.
Amcguy1970
Ford has parts sourcing problems too and they are having bigger quality problems than GM. Either way 4 months is too long, but you can't replace what you don't have and these times are still unprecedented. Not sure where the screw up is. They are trying to fix an issue that could have easily been something else with Dodge, Ford, Toyota and so on. Hopefully the dealer is treating you well and look on the bright side, you are saving months of miles and wear and tear on your truck unless there is something you specifically need it for. Tyler At first the dealer was good. Gave me an almost comparable loaner. Then they called and wanted the loaner back. They rented me a base model as it gets truck. Not very happy with that. I have a friend that works for Ford and there having the same problem as GM with parts on back order, he was telling me that they have trucks sitting on the lot for well over a month waiting on parts for repairs. You got lucky having a loaner with all the vehicles waiting on parts their loaners are gone. AMCguy is right Ford is having major quality problems also. Also Hyundai is having motor issues, my brother-in-law plays golf with a mechanic that works for them and there replacing 2 motors a week in their vehicles they have a lifetime warranty on their motors he said they can't even get motors in to keep up with the replacement's. I am just very frustrated. I feel like I am not getting the whole story. Zero chance in my mind that they have been waiting on alignment dowels for 4 months. I mean they are building new trucks every day and they cant grab a few dowels off the assembly line to get a current customers truck back to him??? I am having a very hard time buying that!! I'm going to respectfully disagree with what they are telling you. I just ordered a transmission dowel pin just to see what would happen. Wrote to the warehouse that stocks them, and did not backorder and will ship. I think you need to have a talk with them. Pin # is 90343317, is both orderable regular or overnight. If they are still waiting on those, they need some new parts people. Or, they are waiting on something else and are lying to you. I understand the frustration completely cause I would be to just for dowel pins. Believe what newdude tells you he works at a Chevrolet dealership, he knows what he is talking about.

diyer2
I would have went online a long time ago to see if I could order the parts. I trust very few people because I know them, all others I'm skeptical.

BG1934
UPDATE: Miraculously after repeated calls and emails to GMC the parts they were looking for showed up Friday..... I got a call on my way home from work. The service advisor tells me they installed the new alignments dowels with no issues. Upon start up and warm up there was no oil leak, They take it for a shakedown drive. When they got it back....there it was leaking oil again. 4 months of this crap. He tells me that they have a "team" (probably one guy with a laptop) of engineers coming to look at it Tuesday. He goes on to tell me that this is the first he has seen like this and only time he has seen something his mechanics could not repair. I spoke to the service manager and asked what happens if the "team" cant figure it out either. The service manager said most likely they will buy me out of the truck. My worry now is what does "buy me out" mean? I put $7500 down on this truck to get it where I wanted to be payment wise. Are they going to try to buy me out at trade in value and I am going to get screwed out of my down payment? I am hoping someone on here has some kind of experience with this sort of thing. I have none lol. Im just a project manager. I have no idea how to protect myself here. Maybe just get an attorney???
