2024 HD orders / status

Definitely some bad experiences ordering a truck. My 2024 AT4 HD is the first vehicle I’ve ever ordered. I sat down with the sales guy and built the truck. He went to the sales manager and came back with the order sheet with order number and RPO codes. I agreed with everything on the order sheet and gave them a $1000 deposit. The order went in the next day. The only suck part was that the truck was built in 2 months and sat in Flint which seemed like forever. Was delivered 6 weeks after being built. It was worth the wait. Pic was taken later in the day after I picked it up.

I've built my last 2 trucks on GM's website, printed it out and took it to the dealership and they duplicated everything in their system with my confirmation. NOTHING was left off of either order, except my first Lakeshore Blue '24 was built in white because apparently the paint codes for the blue weren't finalized from GM yet and the dip-sh*t internet sales manager thought white would be a good option, instead of calling me and asking if I had another color choice. They were able to get another allocation for me a couple months later though & I finally got the exact truck I ordered. I know there is only like a 5-7 day window to make any changes once the allocation is assigned to the dealership and the order is placed.  The window sticker is the only paperwork I'm aware of that has the options on it. I've never seen any other papers with the RPO's that were available to the customer though.

I've found that most dealers provide a copy of their Order Workbench printout that has all the info that most people are looking for...yes it says for "dealer use only", but why wouldn't they do everything in their means to make sure an order is correct?  Oh, we'll just order white instead...unreal.  This is from a 22 Tahoe ordered.

Agreed .......

Guess if the dealer really doesn't care enough about what the customer really wants, ordering the most neutral color, White, would minimize the risk if it ends up sitting on the lot.

Nice-looking truck! That doesn't sound too bad. I think ~3 months is probably about average for ordering.

I built the truck on the GM Supplier website and emailed the link to the dealer. Went in the next day and he keyed in the order while I was at his desk. Order went in and I left a deposit. The next day the salesman called and informed me that the tires on the wheels I wanted were on constraint. Went in the next day and built a second truck. Lucked out on the second truck as the dealer had an allocation for the max tow package that I was unable to get on the first truck. Order was immediately accepted by GM and a build date was assigned. A week later the salesman mailed me a copy of the Workbench order with all options listed along with the pricing for all tiers. The VIN was also listed on the Workbench order along with the order number that I used to track the build progress. 

 

Couldn't have asked for a better experience from the salesman. He regularly texted me updates on the build and once the truck started the trip to the dealership he tracked it daily and texted me the location. Once the truck arrived at the dealership he text a pic of it being unloaded. He had the truck inspected and prepped the following morning and that evening I was headed home with it. From order to delivery was 15 weeks. Truck is currently getting ceramic coated, PPF on front end, and window tint at a detail shop. Once I get it home the tonneau cover, swing cases, and my auxiliary fuel tank will get installed along with the upfitter switches. Can't wait to put some miles on it.

Hi All,

New to the forum. Just picked up my 2024 Silverado 2500HD LT gas with the Alaskan package. It took 7 months from placement of order till delivery. Problem was with the upgraded wheels for the package being unavailable. GM finally switched the package's wheels from the 18" to the 20" so it could be built. Package price went up $1K, which I thought was a good deal because the 20" upgrade alone is $3K. All in all I'm happy I waited for it, but 7 months is quite excessive for GM to get their act together.

 

This is my first gas HD truck in 18 years. My old truck I bought brand new was the 2007.5 GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax. That truck was amazing and never gave me any problems. I did delete all the emissions on it (that was possible back then). But I was tired of all the cold weather diesel issues and limp mode when the fuel got too thick (and yes I'd add antigel and way over the required dose).

 

If the new truck is anywhere close to as reliable as the LMM this gasser will be an awesome truck.

I knew that smaller dealers would not have the allocation that the larger guys do.  But I didn't think about individual dealer policies, like not sharing the workbench printouts or only the Sales manger puts in orders not individual salespersons, would be important.  The irony is, that had they given me that printout on the day of the order, it would prove that GM messed up the order not them.    Note to anyone else reading this, if you are going to order any GM vehicle let them know up front that you know about WORKBENCH and tell them you expect to get a printout before you leave the order meeting.

I am from NC originally and have purchased from the "large dealer with motorsport operations" and the experience was terrible. Great to hear that you avoided doing business with them and found a dealer with better customer service.

I placed a factory order for a 2024 Silverado LT 3500HD and z71 Sport package back on December 15. Dealer is a high volume and they stated at time of order they get regular allocations.

6 weeks later and no allocation received and factory has not accepted the order. Getting frustrated beyond belief. About ready to pull the plug and move on to another brand. 
Not having much confidence in my dealer. Is 6 weeks out of line to wait for an allocation and order acceptance?

Seems like a while for a high-volume dealer. The only luck you're going to have with another brand though is maybe RAM. I ordered a Ford at the same time as my AT4 (last March) and it's just now being shipped...

6 weeks is not necessarily out of line, but a high volume dealer, for an LT?  Yes.  Keep in mind, it depends how many other deposits they had ahead of yours, and if they go in order.  So they might be getting multiple allocations every week, but are giving them to other buys ahead of you.

 

Also funny how all these guys all think they are "high volume".  I am ordering a new AT4X HD, and 3 different dealers told me they get the most allocations in the state.  All part of their bag of tricks to get your deposit.
