Let me know how your experience is with Rivard, so far I have not been pleased with my salesman. Did you do the financing before you went down to pick up your truck?

Very limited information from both Rivard and GM, can't say who's at fault for not giving/having information.

Rivard did the finance before I arrived via email with one hard signature required all the rest were electronic.

Flew down yesterday Rivard had private car pick me up, was at dealer maybe 30min going over truck then headed back to SC via Hwy 95.

Agree with the very limited information. Seems like I only get an update on my order if I reach out to them. I try to only reach out once every 2-3 weeks.

but have to agree with what you wrote in the improvement box. The customers who order deserve to have there’s put through ahead of dealer stock and the very limited information from the online bot is very frustrating given the amount money people are spending on these. Maybe I’m asking to much but when your spending 40k+ on a vehicle you’d think they’d do there most to let you know what’s going on with the vehicle

I also believe gm limits what the dealers are allowed to tell customers.

Honestly I think GM just doesn’t tell dealers much, and dealers also have limited incentive to pass on what they do know. Here’s the example I’m basing that on: our dealer we ordered thru has a long history with my family. I can attest to their quality and communication, but the only update they had since my order date mid July was that a week later they received the TPW for 8/28. They haven’t gotten any new info.  However, I had more info because of family friends high enough in GM had access to it. That TPW hadn’t changed but our truck was to be built in Oshawa roughly a month later than that date because they have been pushed behind for various reasons (mostly high demand and short term supply shortages off and on). The dealer has never gotten an adjusted TPW. Now…that same GM friend was able to move ours up on the schedule to start the build last week, but Oshawa was shut down again for a day or two because of shortages. I expect it’ll be built this coming week after all, but again the dealer had none of this knowledge.

Now, we ended up buying a stock unit that I actually liked better than what I could order at the time due to constraints. So we aren’t waiting anymore for the order. But I’ll be curious to see if it gets built this week after all.

the time when I think the dealers hold back what they know is in regards to allocation and acceptance by GM. They don’t want you to know that they don’t have your allocation yet, or that GM still hasn’t accepted, because they assume (probably correctly) that you’ll look for a different dealer to order thru.

this is all just conjecture based on our experience, but given our history with our dealer I feel pretty confident that honestly they don’t get many updates from GM along the way either.

edit to add that those of you ordering GMC, flint has had short stoppages too. For example, a couple weeks ago they cancelled a Saturday due to being out of transmissions. No idea if that was for the HDs or 1/2tons or across the board, but they are having brief stoppages too here and there that push things back. And I know they aren’t sending notice to dealers each time…

sorry for the novel 😅

Thanks for the detailed update.  It really helps understand the overall process.  I agree that for the initial order and allocation portion, the dealers will be less than transparent and I experienced some of that.  My build week was 7/31, it was built and I have a VIN number but I am in some kind of hold near Flint plant, waiting for shipment.  The sales manager showed me the status screen on his computer that listed my delivery date as Oct 2023 - Dec 2023.  Not sure if it is on hold because of a missing part or just waiting my turn for spot on car transport.  They cannot get any more information than that as far as I know.

Because they have several trucks in the same situation they have been toying with the idea of sending one of their own car transports (larger dealer) but indicated that a previous attempt was unsuccessful because union employee would not release the keys or something like that and they had to return empty handed.

My truck is listed on the GMC website as in transit, I’d assume this means it’s on a rail car headed down to my dealer. I’ve reached out to my salesman a few times to get clarification and haven’t heard back at all.

Honestly once it’s built it will show up in inventory as “in transit” when in reality, as others have mentioned on this thread, it might be waiting on a repair, might’ve been built short and waiting for parts, might be waiting to be released to the shipper, or might be as you said waiting with the shipper. “In transit” doesn’t really mean shipped as it implies. It basically means it was built and has a VIN

Did you order from Rivard in Tampa as well? My TPW was same as yours and was built. Haven’t heard anything from my dealer since even though I’ve asked if it has shipped. All I get is crickets.

Looks like Precision http://precisionvehicleholding.com/ is having some serious issues in Flint getting the trucks moving. There are a lot of new trucks sitting in storage lots around the area. These are all in areas where the trucks have completed validation and are released to ship.

Rumor has it that there are over 2 weeks worth of production (Flint production is typically over 1000 units per day over 3 shifts) waiting for transport. I think GM needs to re-evaluate their relationship with Precision for logistics. My guess would be that they are a big part of the reason that GM cannot define when trucks will be delivered. Next up is a potential strike, that will for sure send things into a tailspin.

I noticed that Precision is a company owned by an "equity firm" which to me usually means a company more bent on profit than actual quality or sustainability.
