So the GCWR sticker (truck and trailer capacity) is not law which some of you are arguing? You are also arguing that is can be adjusted with some springs and gear change among other things? That is what the OP is asking. Not what you used to do 30+ years ago and never got caught doing. I do know you cannot change that sticker which the manufacturer sets forth, same with payload which is why some of those guys who tow heavy complain about what their sticker says.

You may have missed the point somewhat. The trailer has to be able to handle the weight. It carries the load if loaded correctly and have the correct braking capacity. My trailer had two 10K axles both dual wheels. My trucks were 3/4 ton and up a mix of diesel and gas up to V-10s. My trucks never had much of a sag from weight. Just enough for traction. Never had a problem pulling. And was legal.

My contention is that the GCWR and GVWR and Payload ratings established by the manufacturer for a particular vehicle are not law.  A man can increase the towing prowess of his vehicle by modifying it and tow and carry more than those ratings if he pays the taxman for the proper weight class he wants to tow in.

It's not that we didn't get caught, we went through weigh stations and were never flagged for doing anything improper.  We didn't break the law.

SDM said I was wrong but failed to back it up.  Not too proud to admit when I'm wrong.
