2021 Service Brake Pad Monitor

Recommended Posts

I had the multi point inspection done in mid Jan 2023 with 36,800kms and in Feb the DIC displayed “Service Brake Pad Monitor”.

made appointment with my local dealer to had it looked at and they came back and said the rear pad need to be replaced?? Before the message came up I had 90% life left on the monitor, I understand this is an approximate number on the display, but I have never put breaks on a vehicle before 80,000 Km’s.  I explained that the brakes are fine and the the monitor is malfunctioned as per the message displayed and the when I clear the message the brake pad monitor screen the % is greyed out on both front and rear. If it was the brakes warn down it would still display numbers.  Given this answer they charged me $60 for the Diag. That showed no problems. And wanted to setup an appointment to replace the rear pads and rotors… there is no issue with either… they guessed that the pads are at 5mm which is still in the green by their inspection sheet they gave me 2000 kms ago.
I have seen the recall for 2019-20 for this exact issue. And I am not replacing brake pads to make this message disappear due to a faulty sensor… GM needs to fix their problem and if it involves replacing the pads then do it. I know that when they replace the back ones and reset the monitor it will fail again and try to soak me for another $500 for the front brakes.  There was nothing found in the Diag. so what told them that the rear was the problem? I am not impressed with this and I am looking for some information to get this fixed.
