Should I supercharge??

Recommended Posts

Ive got an 01 tahoe with 60K miles on it. I bought it new and I have taken very good care of it. Im thinking of saving up for a vortech or procharger. I like the centrifugal types b/c they are easier on the tranny and I already have a stall. Problem is Ive never kept a car over a year and Ive got some miles on this one. If I did decide to upgrade to a Denali I could just take the parts off this one and throw them on a Denali right?? Ive jsut spent so much money on this truck already I figure I should just finish it. A supercharger would put me in the 13's soundly and I think that would be awesome. Would you guys do it or get something new and then supercharge that early on. Maybe wait until next year and get a Denali. What would you do??

Sounds like you have so moany upgrades and Denali/Escalade stuff that except for the 6.0L, I am not sure that a Denali is that much of an upgrade. Lot's of folks have over 100K miles on supercharged engines, and I doubt that you will own it long enough to wear it out.

I would reccommend the Magnacharger Radix, because the truck is ...well, a truck and the Magnacharger really makes it jump.

But this is just my dos centavos!

Thanks, Ive found a great deal on a Procharger, so since I already have a stall and the prochargers produce faster 1/4 mile times I think Im going to hop on it. I cant wait. It will be some time before I get it installed though. Hopefully I can get a buddy to help me. Shouldnt cost me more than 200-300 that way, besides I want to know where everything is.

Im glad somebody sees the light!! You will not be dissapointed. You cant go wrong with either, but my nod goes to ProCharger. Im not going to elaborate. Also, get your truck re-tuned!!

All You Procharger Addicts:

It will be interesting to compare dyno stats and ET slips after you get it installed; of course, now I gotta do a stall and 4.10 gears and.... where will it end.

Maybe here: Gear Venders

Dunno, but the race is on!

Ive got the Wester's, so I'll have him do another tune. Ive heard of people having some tuning issues with the Prochargers so Im hoping his tuning will take care of that.

Durkin, How much boost are you running?? I think you said that you had a radix which is intercooled. You have 20's as well, right?? Im glad you dont live in my area otherwise we may end up real broke, but we'd have real fast Hoe's!! I know the Procharger comes set for 8#s, but I havent decided whether to have it tuned and change the pulley for higher boost. My goal is to smoke this jerk that lives near me. He has a new EX5 Escalade.

I cant wait. Did you pay for your install or do it yourself??

Folks:

I am in California. Do not think Procharger is CARB approve yet on 2003 trucks!

Jared: The Radix is intercooled (I/C), sorry about the lapse of memory!

It was installed and bought from Arizona Speed and Marine and I recommend them highly!!

Running about six pounds boost via Autometer guage.

As for pulleys, etc, remember the goal is overall performance, not distruction!!

PS: We are learning from this!!

ATI has two kits available. One covers the 4.8 and 5.3 while the other is for the 6.0 -

1GI212-SCI 1999-2004 4.8, 5.3 ATI ProCharger 8-9# of boost

1GI212-SCI 1999-2004 6.0 ATI ProCharger 7-8# of boost

The 6.0 kit makes less boost because the stock fuel system isn't up to working with 9#. We've had a few customers go with the higher boost level for their 6.0. They just deleted the FMU, upgraded to 42# injectors and had a custom program made. This would actually be a good way to go with both kits.

Both of these kits are 50 state legal for the 2003s.

The Radix system will also make good power and will give you more low end. Smaller pulleys are avaialble to get you up to 8-9#. We're found that your can go down to a 3.0" pulley without having to upgrade the programming.

Hey Tbyrne,

Is there a supercharger that you have available that uses the stock fuel system, or can be installed in a day? I am looking for one that gives a good increase but you dont have to change the whole fuel system and it gives a program so you can just install it and go. :loser: Do they make one?
