Trying to diagnose a starter problem in my 1995 GMC sierra 1500

I have been having to rock my truck to start it I know the starter is bad it killed my battery I bought a new one I don't believe it's quite as big as I need but they didn't have the one I needed however my starter is acting up again now it is grinding clicking it eventually starts but it sounds bad it sounds like it is straining to turn

There are 2 starters that will fit, the peanut starter which is much smaller than the old style large starter. either 1 will work, the small 1 is gear reduction and draws less amperage than the large conventional starter.Make sure you check the flywheel and battery cables when you change it
