Front receiver installed...

Recommended Posts

Got a couple of weekend mods done.

Installed the front receiver hitch and receiver hitch winch. No modifications to the rabbit comb required.

Stole the gooseneck winch for the time being..

While I was underneath, I installed the moog idler arm hose kit. Remove grease zerk, install the 90° fitting and hose, connect to the swaybar bolt...

First I've seen/heard of the Moog idler arm hose kit.  If I'm seeing it right does this just act as a remote grease point that's easier to get to?  Interesting.  Your receiver mount turned out perfect.  That sure will come in handy.

If you want to tow backwards down the highway with only one gear, I guess that’s between you and the highway police, but the rest of us are busy having a serious debate about whether 6 gears or 10 gears is better.  Please don’t complicate that debate.

That is correct. Don't have to remove the 4 15mm bolts to drop the skid plate to service.

Seriously though, could you briefly describe what was involved in doing that front receiver installation?  Small bolt on, big cross member bolt on, or welding job?  Thanks.

The receiver bolts on using the rear bolts of the tow hooks and existing holes on the bottom of the frame. No modification needed.

I went out the trashcan and took a picture, before I realized I bought them from amazon.

A front receiver can make recovery from a difficult (trapped!) trailer turn around situation manageable.  Many folks also use them to help park trailers in difficult, tight spots. OTOH, the seriously blocked view with the trailer in front of you limits the utility for tight parking unless you have a carefully observant and level-headed spotter who can give clear, unambiguous directions. Most wives will not pass that test. Obviously YMMV!  Cheers!

I was trying to be funny. I thought my comment was absurd enough that it didn’t need a /s, which was probably a bad assumption on my part. I am familiar with the ways a front hitch can be helpful.  Thanks for the polite explanation, though.

Another JR -- Yes I knew your comment was  "Tongue in Cheek" but I wanted to let others to understand the possible benefit of a front receiver.  I'm surprised I didn't take heat from an insulted wife or two.  I'm certainly glad my wife doesn't visit this forum!
