2023 3500HD Multiflex tailgate complaint

Recommended Posts

So I learned the hard way about the lower drop tailgate issue , I didn't have a full hitch in but rather a B&W Tow and Stow , so it was just a flat edge that the tailgate hit and dented

this of course was 2 days after dropping $81K on this truck and no warning from the dealership .. come to find out that this has been an issue for over 3 years.

Is GM doing anything about this for their customers or are they just saying "you should have known"

Its a 3500 Duramax meant for towing - how about a stupid warning label for us to read and remove like the one on the glovebox

I'm a Chevy die hard loyalist , 4th Silverado , Equinox daily and both a 67 and 91 Camaros in the garage .. I hope the bowtie steps up

To disable the inner gate from opening, press and hold the upper button on the tailgate for 3 seconds. (Fig. 4) The key fob must be within 3 feet (1 meter) of the rear bumper.

The tail lamps will flash when the inner gate has been disabled. The inner and outer gates can still be operated like a traditional tailgate, but the inner gate will not be able to be opened alone.

To enable the inner gate function, press and hold the upper button on the tailgate for 3 seconds until the tail lamps flash. The inner gate can then be opened separately from the outer gate.

TIP: If the inner gate is not functioning properly, check that it has not been disabled (possibly inadvertently) by the owner. Re-enable the inner gate and check operation before continuing with any diagnosis or repairs.

Tailgate Functions

The tailgate has six functional positions, including a load stop to help secure cargo and a step for easier access to the cargo box.

Press the release bar on the inside of the tailgate to open the load stop or lower the step. (Fig. 5)

The inner gate step — load rating of 375 lbs. (170 kg) — has a convenient fold-up assist handle on the left side of the cargo box. (Fig. 6)

To use the handle, lift it up until it locks in the open position. To store the handle, pull the release lever toward the ball end of the handle and push the handle back to the closed position.

Oh man..how frustrating.  Totally agree on the warning label.  I specifically ordered mine without the multiflex because I didn't want to deal with cleaning out the jamb everytime i washed it.  That and I'd rather have the power close feature.

I always check before dropping the gate, just because I don't trust myself.

But what model of stow and go do you have? The 2500/3500 models have been built with an angledScreenshot_20230209_081206_Gallery.thumb.jpg.689396190e3ec3881522b0b71d4abecd.jpg design, unlike the 1500 model.

Even with the balls raised up to  level with the bottom of the angled design, my 2500 and 3500 will not hit.

I know it must piss you off, it would me, and it too late but there IS a warning label on the inside of the left jamb of the bed of this. Not just words, but pictures.

Don't know if you have seen this, but if you drop the midgate down first, you CAN NOT get the main gate to drop, without first closing the midgate.

Hmm, hate to say it but you're a dumbass like the rest of us. :P

FYI: Don't open the doors when you're too close to a car and don't open the hood when you're under your garage door opener.

...I'm teasing.

so I guess I have to blame the salesperson , because I'm definitely not at fault "cause I'm perfect"

live and learn , I will be ordering the new 2.5" Stow and Go .. TBH this one is kinda rusty

I'll just accidentally break something at the dealership to feel Justified
