Help deciding which hitch mount. What do you guys run?

So I want to buy a mount and I think I’m leaning towards a one size fits all type deal. I’ve heard b&w and weigh safe are good along with genY. All of those seem to cost 350-400.

anyone use this aluma tow brand? It’s aluminum and has a 2.5” mount with a wide range of heights and 3 balls. It’s 229 on Amazon.

so what do you guys think? And what drops do you find yourself using for different trailers?

Used rapid hitch in the past, but now have a weigh safe, the weigh thing is pretty cool. But with the rapid hitch or weigh safe, same concept of having both balls and adjusting height. Saves having 3-4 hitches around

I run a b&w. I purchased mine as a “used in good condition” on amazon saved a bunch of money. The hitch was just a little dusty when I got it. It had never been put into a receiver. I’m betting that someone needed a 2” or 3” shank, not the 2.5”. Mine is the 5” drop version. It is fine for my boat and camper. If you have a trailer that very sits low, you may want the 7” drop. My dad has a hitch very similar to the one in your op. I like the B&W way better.

Do you tow different trailers with different hitch heights? If not, I favor a simple forged steel fixed height hitch bar of appropriate height for my trailer, and preferably one that doesn’t interfere with the inner tailgate, but that’s height dependent. This type is simple, strong, and has no bad stress concentration areas where they better get the design and weld quality just right.

When I got my latest truck with the 2.5" receiver it rendered my plethora of 2" mounts obsolete. I prefer the same style as Another JR but to rebuild a collection of different drops and ball sizes in an appropriate weight class was going to be way too $$$. Same thing on the name brand adjustable mounts. I chose an off brand in the highest capacity I could find and hoped for the best. Its not my preferred MO, I would typically try to go for a brand to help insure a guaranteed level of quality. Sometimes though - I can't (stubbornly) justify the cost. I'm NOT spending $200 for a ball mount.

We have a smaller utility trailer that is pretty low. It’s not at my house so I can’t measure but it would certainly need some sort of drop. We are going to get a boat this summer so I am not sure on that one. I will also be needing to tow a uhaul trailer as it’s enclosed next month and also will be renting an RV once this summer. So lots of trailers will be used. I’m guessing all will be a 2” ball but the drop is unknown.

I was looking at a forged curt unit but didn’t want to commit to one size. Wonder if a 2” or 4” drop would be best Around.

My truck doesn’t have the multi pro tailgate so that wouldn’t be an issue

I have the B&W tow and stow I love it it’s got a 7” drop and they have model for multi flex gate or not

I haven't bought it yet, but this is what I planned on using.

I'm also a fan of single height hitches. But I like to be able to adjust height based on load. If the back of my truck has 2,000# in it vs being empty it's going to change the ride height of the rear end.

I also have 2 different trailers right now and may pick up a 3rd. So there's that.

Totally subscribed and looking for the same thing! I want a hitch that is capable for what the truck can tow, not some cheap drop down that is only good for 5k lbs. So yes, I'm looking to be educated too with this post.

just looked. Holy guacamole. 650.00 dollars. If I towed massive weight daily I could justify it but woofta. Curt makes top of the line stuff though.

It has everything someone could want even comes with the locks and a case. The max tow with the 2 5/16 ball is 12k though. Probably fine for me but maybe not everyone.

I only run weigh-safe hitches. I haul lots of different Rvs, boats, and trailers, including equipment on a flatbed and material in a dump trailer. It is crazy how quick you can be off on tongue weight on trailers that you load. If you are loading things like u-haul trailers you want to get the tongue weight right. Too little on the ball and you risk getting the wig wags and it's easy to mis-load a u-haul.

It's pricey for sure! That's the only reason I haven't bought it since I don't actually need it yet. But soon enough I will need it.
