Power Mod Chips from eBay

Recommended Posts

This is old stuff, and at least the guy is honest in his explanation. It is not a special chip, but just a cheap resistor and assuming the instructions he sends are decent quality, then the price is realsistic.

However, the resistor is about $0.30 or so at Radio Shack. If you want to dig around on this, do a GOOGLE search for "iat modification".

In short, the IAT modification fools the computer in thinking that the intake air is about 55 degrees or so, depending on the value of the resistor. The computer re-adjusts timing and fuel mixture, so the vehicle MIGHT fill zippier as a result of the modification.

I did it to my Pontiac Grand Am with its 3.4 V-6 and the throttle, even in summer, required far less pressure to zip around in town. WOT did not feel different at all. Since most of the driving was in town, the modification was a help for me. I drove it for two years this way and had no problems. In winter time, it seemed to have no effect at all toward the harmful and the car seemed happy.

Now the V-8s............. that's another story and I just don't know. These trucks have a far greater lattitude of adjustments and this might make no difference at all.

Now the techno-dweeb-purists will recommend totally against it because, basically, the modification is throwing false data at the computer and the computer will adjust to what data it receives. You'll find a lot of flame wars over the IAT modification, but its simplicity is such that it is a temptation to play with.

One site that I found just now on GOOGLE has several photos, but not of our truck, but the principal is the same:

Have fun with it, give it a try. I don't think it will help with our V-8s, but could make a difference for in-town, partial throttle acceleration, with smaller motors. Just my opinion.

And, please, don't double post. Most members probably do a "check for new messages" across all boards.
