Are there any known recalls for control arms ?

Recommended Posts

My 2014  sierra  only has 57366  km (  just under 36000 miles)  i'm retired so i don't drive it much  it basically  sits in the driveway  gets to the grocery store once a week and household errands .  have to replace upper & lower control arms  and ball joints    the aluminum ones  anyone  know if there was ever a recall on these ?  Yeah i know the truck is 9 years old  but the parts should last more than 36000 miles. Please let me know   being retired i really can't afford the $3,500 it's going to cost to repair it

Not sure of any recalls, but all years have bj issues...

$3,500 is Uber steep. Buy the new control arms from rock auto and have a local small shop swap them. You'll be out less then $1,000usd. Thats including an alignment after that is a must.

By far Less money spent and better overall end result.

May you be blessed. If you were local I would swap them for you.

Boy that sucks. I'm not aware of any extended warranty/recall from GM on this. In my opinion, they could have determined excess play/wear without disassembly. This does sound HIGH to me, but I haven't searched for parts cost on GM parts. If it were me, I'd demand that they reassemble & that I'd sign a disclaimer to release them from any issue that they claim & take it to a good independent shop. Call around to see what someone else would charge for this.

Good luck & keep us posted

In my opinion GM uses cheap as they can find suspension parts. My 2014 had a ball joint getting loose and the local tire shop wanted 700 to replace both upper ball joints. I came home and found I could buy Moog Problem solver ( Higher grade ) upper and lower arms with greaseable ball joints both side for around 600 from Rockauto so I did it myself. I would go with Snowcamo's advice and get a quote and you supply the hardware.

best of luck.
