6.2 L oil consumption

is this normal to those motors, my truck have 2200 miles and  looks like she is burning oil, I pull the deep stick earlier and show 1/2 quart low at only 1500 miles .

Oil consumption during break-in would be considered normal.  GM's limit to where oil consumption becomes excessive is more than 1 quart in 2,000mi.  They also suggest that a consumption test should not be performed until the vehicle has 4,000mi on it.

That said, regularly checking during break-in is something one should do for sure.

Time to excercise that 6.2 and make sure those rings seat nicely.

I will be changing the oil this weekend, I’ll be dumping the castrol edge at 1500 miles and sending a sample at blackstone , I will be changing to valvoline EP 0w20 for the next 1500 miles or so after  I have Amsoil signature going in after that I hope this oil consumption slow down or I’ll be dumping this truck, my hemi never burned oz oil at 7500 changes, any of them and I have more than a 10 of them in trucks suv passenger cars and muscle cars….

It more likely the oil is the reason then the engine.  Dexos standard allows up to 13% evaporative loss.

Castrol Edge 0W-20 is 12% evaporative loss

Valvoline 0W-20 is 11.6% loss

Signature Series 0W-20 is 8.5%  Better base oil

dexos spec says 13% loss meets spec.

I been running SS 0W-20 for 17,000+ miles and about 2 yrs, oil has not gone down any measurable amount.

Don't believe me,  google search "engine oil volatility"

fwiw - Castrol (BP) and Valvoline (ARAMCO) are owned by foreign corporations, the later the Saudi Arabian Oil Company (ARAMCO).  AMSOIL is a USA owned company.

After everything you put us through and the countless threads started?

In all seriousness though Amsoil will correct it, along with the rear window leak if you have that with the oil change.

Did you baby this engine at break in?

I wish I knew that sooner. When I first got my avalanche, obviously garage kept it rained about 3 inches. It leaked inside bad. So I weather striped the sun roof closed. I don’t use them anyway. The next time it rained it leaked just a little. I figured it was the center removable panel. I live on a hill so I nosed it up. Three years no leaks. At the same time I changed all fluids to Amsoil. I never knew it Amsoil fix water leaks! Damn, thanks.

I am beginning to think that GM trucks are a big pile .......

All brands burn oil, we have 5.0 F150's at work and they burn just under a quart per 1000 miles.  JUNK!  Shutting down cylinders isn't a good thing in my book.

I sure hope I dont miss my 2003 Silverado HD2500. That thing had a 6.0L that was a workhorse of power, and never used any oil in 3000 to 4000 mile oil changes. I used conventional oil on it since it was new in 2003. Traded it in at 225,000 miles and I can assure you if you removed a valve cover, you could eat a bowl of cereal from the inside of it it would be free of oil stains and burn smell.

I had by 2022 SLT 6.2L only 9000 miles, but the DFM was on RetroFit and did not work. It had 4 oil changes in that 9000 miles and never used any oil, and the power of the engine was really good. Got rid of this truck do to RetroFit heated seats, no HUD, and no SuperCruise.

Now have the 2023 Denali Carbon Pro 6.2L and hope that the DFM does not effect it in any negative way because I think it is on the engine and likely active. Window sticker did not show RetroFit.

I always remove the break in oil at 500 miles. Then first oil change at 2500 miles, 2nd oil change at 6000 miles, and usually 3500 to 4500 miles there after on every change.

I dont baby my engine break in. The word abuse however is not part of my process either. I use to build race engines that had to go from engine stand to dyno, and race track, so I know a few things about break in process.

I'm on my ninth one in twenty-five years. I've never had any major problems.

I have a 2020 Denali 6.2. It has approximately 24,000 miles. I just changed the oil this week with 5,700 miles on the Mobil 1. Checked the oil before changing and it used approximately zero oil since the last change -I must be lucky.
