The only 75w85 they ever made for GM. I can't remember the marketing code or name off top of head.  This is dated but its close.

No Sir Grumps, thats the old basic stuff.  That syntrans was once called syncro-mesh by GM at one time but they replaced a bunch of the PAO in the original formula with soy based synthetic. Added some more AW and EP additives for diffy's.

Thanks Grumpy, confirms to me why I like Amsoil products. 19 Hyundai Santa Fe, driveline all severe gear, Amsoil OE trans fluid and OE motor oil.

Honda ATV severe gear and Amsoil ATV Jaso II motor oil.

Once again, definitely quieter motors and better shifting trans. than off the shelf products.Took me 50 years to make the switch.

Now my truck sits so much I'm still using off the shelf products because I have them sitting on the shelf.

SAE is always "updating". Click on the picture to get a larger clearer picture. I also converted the temp scale for the cold weather performance for those south of the 49th.

Thats because new lube formulations are outrunning the petroleum standards of yorn.

diyer2, just a suggestion on the transmission fluid.  Unless you change it out frequently I would switch it up to the Signature Series ATF fluid.  It has a better base stock and additive package and to me well worth the extra cost.  The OE fluid is for those that like to change the fluid out every 20k miles to keep the fluid fresh so it keeps the cost down.  With the Signature Series for normal service you can go 100k.  I change it out at 50K but then I do tow a 4klb trailer.    Just a suggestion.

I have no problem changing fluids so I went with OE. Like I've said before I still think OE Amsoil products are better than off the shelf products. I may consider Sig. Series.

One of the icing on the cake deciding factors with Amsoil for me was their transmission and hydraulic fluids. My father had a 88 Ford diesel dually. He mostly pulled a fifth wheel. He basically traveled the same route visiting his parents in NJ and brother in Florida. He went often. Just before 100K miles the transmission went out. A local place rebuilt it and we took him Amsoil. At 281K it was traded in. Same rebuild. In late 1995. It was the longest he ever kept a Ford, he loved that truck.

I got hooked on Red Line Gear Lubes with a problem 98 Honda 5 speed manual that Red Line had developed a fluid for to solve its poor shifting issue. These transmissions had to be brought to under 3 mph to get it to shift into low gear even though it has a 1-2 synchro ring. Red Line MTL I could get it to low smooth as butter at any speed. They understand friction packages.

Ditto my 2005 HD TC-88 transmission. Clunky and hard shifting with HD fluids cold and worse hot. Red Line Shock Proof Heavy....shifts like a nifty thrifty Honda 750. Their 80W90 NT made the clutch behave and STOPPED shoe wear in its tracks. (They no longer make this fluid :( ) Ditto the 10W40 car oil STOPPED cam shoe wear in the motor. (cooler used).

In motors, water and air cooled, cleanliness and wear protection even after 200K is off the hook. (on teardown and inspection).

I have an uncle who is a diehard AMSOIL guy with identical experiences and he's done allot more driving and building than I have and a decade more history with AMSOIL than I have with Red Line. It's always a fun afternoon with him.

I'm currently using AMSOIL Severe Gear in Pepper.
