Great mod. I'd consider this if I didn't have a topper on full time.

You could always use a Cadillac Escalade or Yukon Denali rear cam  ...

I started this, but am at a impasse. My 2017 LT does not power the new mirror when plugged in. I believe you need to already have an auto dimming mirror, for this to work straight away. I am currently awaiting the Harness Doctor harness, to add an auto dimming mirror, hoping this adds the necessary wiring to power the new mirror. @pgamboa Thoughts on the viability of my plan? I haven't seen anyone else mention this issue online.

Here is the pinout of the mirror plug  , Maybe this will help you Re-Pin your plug so it works properly .

Thanks. Previosuly I ended up grabbing power and ground out of the drivers side fuse panel, working now.

I have a question, I today ordered the mirror and camera but I also have a 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 without the mirror dimming option what is the best approach to this issue. And how did you grab power from the drivers side. What do you use to extract the pins from these GM connectors.

you might be able to use a really small thin flathead or a paper clip if you don't have a Pin tool .

I didn't bother repinning anything. I used a fuse tap at the drivers side fuse box, and a t tap directly to the #2(red/positive) and #5(white/ground) wires from the diagram above.

Lol, small world when it comes to these trucks I guess.

I tapped into fuse # 31 in the drivers side fuse panel, on the side of the dashboard. Its listed as "Accy/Run/Crank" on the label. You put the fuse you take out of #31, into the fuse tap, and then add another 10-15amp fuse for the mirror, and replace the fuse tap where the original fuse was removed. With this fuse, the mirror turns on when you start the truck, and off when you turn the key off.

A word of advice, watch where you drill your hole for the camera to poke through the light. I used a dimple that was centered on the plastic center brake lens, and when I went to install the camera it was in the way of the 3rd brake light bulb, not allowing me to twist and lock it back into its place.  I am currently waiting to get some very short led bulbs to try and make it work again.

If I was to do it over again, I’d probably move below that indent, and also make sure to angle the hole I drilled downward more. As when I finally finished, the camera just barely saw the tailgate, and the adjustment built into the mirror was all the way down. I’d rather have aimed a bit lower, and then adjusted the mirror back up slightly, but I couldn’t at that point.

Thank you so much for sharing that information I will definitely look out on how I do the hole. Let me know once the installation is complete to check it out. Thanks
