New Wester's tuning!

Recommended Posts

Just talked to Lyndon and got the whole story on his new tuning options!

Wester's tunes are available with 4 different basic choices now.

1) 85 octane high altitude tune

2) Dual 87-91 Octane tune (will automatically adjust for octane)

3) Dual 89-93 octane tune (will automatically adjust for octane)

(These 2 dual octane tunes are recomended for all dual purpose (work/play) trucks.

4) 93 Octane HOT tune (much more agressive than the Dual octane tune)

(Recomended for performance trucks)

Of course he can custom tune any of the basic program tunes to your needs and preferences.

The dual octane tunes are able to run with 87 octane in MOST conditions with decent performance, or with 89, 91 or 93 when more performance is wanted. The 87 will run fine under MOST conditions, but altitude, temperature, poor fuel quality or sensor variations may require choosing the next grade higher in octane.

To repeat, nothing is changing in the tune, but be aware that under certain conditions with the 87 dual octane tunes, a higher octane fuel may have to be used, and that more performance is available just by using higher octane, the tuning will adjust itself for the higher octane.

Thanks for the info Butch! I just emailed him the other day with a few questions I had since I'm looking to order a tune in the near future.

A question I forgot to ask is (and hopefully one of you know the answer), how does the tune affect the tow/haul mode? Does he put in new entries for this? Will it stay the same as it is now? Or does it automatically adjust based on the "base" settings?

No problem! I think these new tunes will make the ordering process easier for those that aren't sure what they want!

The tow/haul mode. There is allot of misinformation out there about this. Some of the tuners are actually claiming the tuning turns into a 93 octane tune by pushing the tow/haul button and some seem to think it is a performance setting. It isn't. There are NO separate spark or fuel tables associated with this mode, all it does is raise the tranny shift points, shift timing and line pressure. It will use the same tables that non Tow/haul mode will. The shift feel in tow/haul will get proportionally firmer based on the shift firmness of your tune. I get firm shifts with My Wester's tune, and tow/ haul is still ok, just a little firmer.

Great! That's kinda what I was hoping you'd say. That makes me feel even better about getting the 89/93 tune (as opposed to the all out 93) since I can still get just a tad more by using tow/haul if I decide I need it.

Btw, which tune did you get?

I got the 93 performance tune. I don't plow, tow or haul heavy with this truck since I have a 3500/454 for that.

This is a dream come true!

My only questions are

1) Will GM see the mod when they hook the truck up to a Tech 2 ( I 24k miles left on the factory warranty)

2) When I go to do my emissions (Houston, TX) will there be any troubles when they hook up to the OBDII port?

Thanks, Nick

1) Wester's tuning is 100% invisible to the Tec2 scanner that the dealers use. If you don't tell them it's in there, they will never know!

2) Same with the inspection/emissions stations. Most that have had emission tests done with their Wester's installed have reported Very low emission readings, better than stock. Makes sense, Wester's tuning is more efficient than the stock tuning is, and most see a gain in fuel mileage too.

Minor problem! Use plastic

With the 30 day trial with the Wester's, you probably wouldn't get the credit card bill for 2 months anyway

Great, thanks for being a bad influence BUTCH! :jester: I was trying to hold off, but now I think I'm gonna have to order it next week. Hmmm, I hope Lyndon checks his email over the weekend!

Who me a bad influence

Lyndon usually does work on Saturdays, you should get it in about 5 days. He ships 3 day Priority UPS, but Canadian Customs slows it down a day or two more.

Give us a full report when you get it in. Get some 93 in your tank so your ready when it comes.

Many guys at those high altitudes complain of the poor performance. That's why Wester's came out with a program developed just for you!
