ALL-TERRAIN tires

I have been researching this topic for a while and it seems the majority from all the sites and FB groups most really like the Toyo Open Country AT3's  I'll more than likely go that route this spring.  Just not liking the $1,500 cost.  I know prices have climbed up,  My BFG KO'2's a long time ago were only $800 installed.

I know the price on those is definitely steep

No one has mentioned the tire I prefer. Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus. I've ran all the tires that have been mentioned and this is by far the best tire out of the bunch IMO. It is quiet and an excellent snow tire also. Tread life has been great. And, they come with outlined white letters if you like, as do the BFG's that were mentioned. I do rotate every 5k miles when I change oil. Price is on the lower end of the what the others cost. My truck came with the Goodyear Trail Runner. Hated that tire. I took them off before 10k miles and sold them as a set to the shop where I bought the Pirelli's from. They always buy my used tires as long as they are in good shape.

Falken Wildpeak AT3W. Hands down. I've had them on my last 3 trucks and cannot rave about them enough. Decently priced, 3PSF rated and track like nobody's business in rain and snow, smooth riding, look good and are relatively quiet. I only notice a little more singing vs the TrailRunners they replaced.

You get these, you will NOT be disappointed. The only negative I can mention is in LT trim, they are heavier than their counterparts.

To the ones with louder tire noise with some miles on them, could it be not rotating them on a maintenance schedule which would then cause un-even wear and by the time it does get rotated the damage is already there.

i rotated every 5k-7.5k miles and they stayed quiet for a while.  Once I got around 35k on them, they started getting noisy regardless of rotation interval or type.

Same! I got my tires rotated by the dealership where I got my oil changed. Was included in the price and cheaper than I could go buy oil and an oil filter for. The Duratracs are just terrible tires when it comes to noise.

OP, I put on some Bridgestone A/T Revo3's and they've been fantastic in the 2 months I've had them. Night and day difference in ride quality and noise-level. I don't hear these at all when driving and they've performed well going up to my mountain cabin.

I'll throw another vote out there for Falken Wildpeak AT3. I am on my second set on my 2012 Z71. I have had a set of Toyo's, two different Nitto's and the Bridgestones it had when i bought it used. The Falkens are the only set ive gone back to. I got about 50,000 miles on the last set, rotating every 5-6,000 miles. Still had really good traction in the rain, pretty quiet for an AT tire.

x3 on the Falken's, we've had a bunch of winter and ice as well and I'm doing a ton in 2wd on the skinnies I put on that normally would have me reaching for the 4x button, second set of these and they run on my other vehicle, first set on the truck and they are one of the, if not thee, top choice in snowflake rated all terrains, I run load range E only, don't like flats

What a generic question that could have been answered through any kind of quick search on any make/model forum or Google.

But to answer the question, first, the BFG's are the most overrated and overpriced tire you can buy. They look the coolest to most people and that is it (which is why they were so popular). People put looks over performance, they are a very average tire all around. They are the Toyota of tires, not much has changed, had a strong reputation years ago a (think decades...) many have caught and passed them in performance, but the purists still shout they are the best (though testing says otherwise). You don't aways get what you pay for in terms of price.

General rule of thumb that reigns true 90% of the time, the more aggressive the tire the louder they will be. Not to mention they will perform worse on pavement (braking and handling) as well as hit the mpg's even harder.

So if you want quiet, look for the milder AT's. Tires like the Continental Terrain Contact, Bridgestone Revos, Firestone AT2 and mine and many favs the Cooper AT3s. Any of those tires will get you through most what the more aggressive ones will in most cases or situations; and if you spend most of your time on pavement the benefits will far outweigh the lost aggressiveness. I off road more than most and I stepped down in aggressiveness after my tires got louder as they wore on my daily drive, but I still trust them in the back country aired down and pull be through muddy fields hunting. Plus the shorter stopping distance and better cornering along with slight bump in mileage was nice every day...

Just be realistic with your needs. Saying quiet then going with an aggressive AT tire or Hybrid tire means you just want looks > actual use and function.

You have some input, but do some other research too, check other forums especially. I liked getting input on things like tires and shocks from other trucks. Tacoma World has tons of tire reviews, even though the trucks are a little lighter it is still relevant.

I just put on a pair of the new Hankook Dynapro AT2 Extreme (RF12) tires. For me it came down to the Hankooks and the Toyo Open Country AT3. I couldn't find any reviews on the new Hankooks, but the not so great wet traction reviews for the Toyos steered me towards the Hankooks. I'm am glad I took the chance on the new Hankooks. They exceeded my expectations in every category including the very important to me wet traction. But the noise level is most impressive, I still can't believe how quite and smooth riding these tires are, and they have the 3 peak rating. The set of tires they replaced were Michelin Defender LTX M/S which are universally known as some of the quietest, smoothest riding tires available, and that's what I am comparing them too. IMO Hankook really hit a home run with these tires, and I think these will be a very sought after tire once the word gets out about them.

I'm looking to replace the stock good year tires on my truck, they drive hard and very very LOUD,   so what is the most quiet ALL-TERRAIN tires ?

An unlikely candidate, Michelin Defenders!  Mine have thus far gone everywhere my Nitto Trail Grappler M/Ts and BFG KO2s have gone without getting stuck!  Wouldn't have believed it until I did it.

We took all three trucks out into the woods and none got stuck.

After 50K miles with the KO2s, I'm enjoying the quiet and extra highway mpgs with the Defenders on now.
