After-market Sunroof Air Deflector

Recommended Posts

Maybe a bit cheesy looking, but I have one on my Suburban and it works great! Better than anything else I tried, and NO buffetting even at 90mph. Stock OEM pop-up deflectors suck at anything over 30mph. Just curious if anyone has successfully put an after-market on their truck, even if they had to modify it to get around the shark fin antenna. Here's what I'm talking about:

I never hear any buffeting on my 22 Silverado sunroof. Been on the highway doing 80+ and still nothing.

Are you kidding? On my demo drive in a 22 Refresh Sierra 1500 Denali, the sunroof open was noisier then crap above 30 mph! Maybe I shouldn't have used the terrm buffetting, because it was more of wind noise than true buffetting. In either case, with the aftermarket deflector on my Suburban, I can go 80+ and still hear the audio system just fine, and speak normally during conversation. No way could that happen in that Sierra 1500 Denali!

They have a built in deflector actually its more of a defuser. You may actually introduce buffeting.. Those had their times but the sunroofs have evolved to a point that the deflector is not needed.

The built-in deflector is indeed a diffuser that mitigates the buffeting, but the wind noise is louder than sh|t. And, they're made of cloth, which sucks, too, unlike the metal one in my Suburban which is made of metal. In either case, I noticed that while both stock ones indeed reduce buffetting, they also create a lot of wind noise, so I should not have said "buffetting" in my original post, I should said "wind noise".

But, no way does that aftermarket deflector introduce buffeting, and instead of creating more noise like the built-in deflectors, it actually eliminates what the built-in deflectors cause.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just got my truck 3 days ago and, as expected, opening slider allows more draft. While that would address buffeting if there was no factory pop-up deflector, by creating more draft, it doesn't mitigate the wind noise. In my experience, only an external deflector will help, hence my original post. Let me know what you think, when you get yours.
