Which oil filter, not so simple!

In all honesty.................   Ill be the first one to manup and admit NOT to use something i have used/tried, if it causes damage to something.

... I am not pushing a product, i dont argue what filter for anything is the best or worst.

...

For example, of what didnt work for me. DONT ask a girl you met at a biker bar, to marry you wile at the said biker bar. The marriage did last 12 years though.

I’d be interested in using that filter if it has comparable multipass functionality / capability’s of the design filters for my trail boss 2.7 4 popper turbo. How often do you clean yours on the 6.6?

The first oil change was when it was installed. Ill see how the oil looks and change early or on/at the recommended mileage.

No reason to clean the oil filter till a change. Even then, it is said can go 5 time longer, i wouldnt do that, as it is simple to clean.

Going back to being a fulltime rv, traveling bumb, ill go back to, change as needed, like if i am headed south for the winter or north or the summer, and or if i am at a location to be able to change the oil vs a place i cant.

The 6.6 gasser will be a pleasure doing oil and filter changes vs my previous diesel that took 3 gallons and 1 qt of oil,  oil filter was a sucker to get at, and 2 fuel filters.

On the multipass part of the filter, it is advertised as having a bypass that still filters the oil and if really needed a bypass that bypasses the bypass, to do the same as a normal filter, and just dump non filtered oil in the system.

So thats a filter in a filter, to clean 2 filters.

It would be interesting if the catch can keeps the oil cleaner longer also, without,,, some,,, of the crap getting back into the oil from the pcv.

K&P is the one I used.  K and P Engineering

Cleaned it with brake cleaner each oil change. 5K OCI's.

My brother used a remote filter setup from Amsoil. It had two filters. He had it attached to the inner fender under the hood. Now sit down for this part. The claim was not needing to change your oil for 50K miles. The filters were extended use too. He had a new Dodge Ram. 1995 Big Daddy Edition. Regular Cab 5.9 engine with a 390 rear gear. There was regular testing of the oil. He didn’t put the mileage on we did he ran the shop. Around 50K miles he added a Vortec Super Charger with about 5LBs of boost. He had a pulley made to increase the boost later that found the weak point of the 5.9. About 10 years 100K miles the head gasket ended the experiment. He bought a diesel and his new experiment, bio diesel.

So, what did we learn in that first 100K? Don't leave me hanging brother. 😬

OH Sorry🤪 The 5.9 Dodge gas engine can’t handle 12lbs of boost.

Just information:

WIX list filter efficiency as 2/20=6/20 which requires a bit of deciphering.

It has a Beta Ratio of 2 at 6 micron and a Beta of 20 at 20 microns so.....

It is 50% efficient at 6 micron and 95% efficient at 20 microns.

And the oil filter experiment?

Well, all our extended oil change vehicles lasted their time with us most being traded in by 150K. Two diesels went several 100K miles without any oil usage. He did the same deal on his 2005 diesel Ram. It was highly modified enough that it dusted my 06 trailblazer ss. Ten years later he traded it in with 130K miles. He got a Hemi, now drives a Super Snake Ford F-150. He didn’t go long enough really.  I have to believe everything checked out or he would have changed the oil more often. I really don’t see the point now. Engines are so complicated now I wouldn’t go past 5K miles on oil changes.

Although all diesels, not sure what they did with the gas vehicles.

When i worked for the electric company in New Hampshire, PSNH, they covered most of the state.

Someone ( probably ) in management, made the call to do once a year oil changes and 3 times a year filter changes on ALL the/our bucket trucks and diggers. Thats new stuff with emissions. So that meant by date only.

Oil used was diesel Mobile 1 and Mobile 1 filters.

It was said, it didnt mater miles drove or more so on these trucks, hours. As most of the time was with the pto in at a job sight.

The only problem i was involved in or came across, was a turbo went. More likely an actuator, but the company, just like most dealers toss a new turbo hole set up on instead of an actuator if the turbo and veins are still good.

That is/was kinda interesting when people debate when to change ones oil. Being the trucks may be kept 8 years or 15 years. Rode hard and put away wet.

Is that a multipass or single pass value? Note getting standardized testing values that’s apples to apples is difficult for the little people.

I would love to see a UOA on a 50K mile OCI for a street diesel. Or gas motor for that matter. 😬

Like I said it was years ago less complicated engines. It wasn’t a few engines diesel or gas it was many. Aside from family vehicles most were high yearly mileage or near redline working diesel machines. My 94 Z-28 had 5 oil changes in 130K miles. My wife drove it 60K, my son about 50K. It was my toy after. I ran the dog out of it. The first under 15K oil change person vehicle was my wife’s latest Genesis. From the mid 80s until recently everything was extended. My 04 Z-71 went to my son after I put 150K on it. At that time the transmission got its first fluid change, the coolant the same. It was actually per the maintenance manual. The oil was changed every 25K, Amsoil. Like all my vehicles except my Z-66 they were modified. He put another 50K miles on it with the original plugs. Different times with vehicles now, I not sure it’s better. I can’t believe we were just lucky. It was many vehicles and equipment.

They do it differently than anyone else. The numbers to the left of the equal sign are the beta ratios. The numbers to the right are the micron size. Pared left to left and right to right.

ISO 4548-12 multi-pass.
