Which oil filter, not so simple!

I just changed oil at 11,200 miles a few days ago, still using the reusable filter, still no strange noises and the motor hasn't crapped out yet.

This is what was inside an ACDelco filter when I was about 20, yea shredded wood fibers. Steel wool in some others. It was also used as a seat batting.

Shredded Wood Excelsior

Even into the 1960's filters were optional on many models. Of course, oil changes were 500 to 1500 miles.

PSA the Mobil 1 M1-212A filter for these trucks does not meet spec on bypass pressure. It’s 12-15 lbs and should be 22.

Stick with PF63.

while people debate oil filters here on forums, others out there are putting 300,000-400,000 miles+ on their engines without oil/oil filter related failures using whatever the dealer or quick lube places are putting on during oil changes.

Theres lots of information out there now and for me it comes down to getting the best construction I can for the amount of money I am willing to spend. Paying more doesnt always get you more.

Finish it......

300 to 400K for healthy GAS motors well maintained with reasonable OCI's, adequate fluids and adult driven, often with a majority of highway miles......there......

Once a motor is well run in and assuming proper oil selection the only thing that generates enough particles large enough and hard enough to create three body wear is?......"Initiation and propagation" aka, leaving the oil in too long.

In three body wear testing, that debris is ADDED to the oil. They don't wait for it. When 'they' don't tell you that, the results from that study stand in a vacuum and lead to some true but irrelevant conclusions.

Very fine and efficient filters are effective when you are running oil long enough to accumulate enough oxidation/soot debris to actually THICKEN the oil.

Human nature I suppose to look at a topic as if each point of consideration is divorced from every other point of consideration as if IT alone was the singular cause for the observed affect.

AMEN and 'misinformation', disinformation, outright lies and marketing deceptions. It's a minefield.
