315/75-16 on 2500HD w/o lift?

Recommended Posts

Meant to post this here the first time (put it in the 1500 forum yesterday while half asleep)....

Has anyone seen a 2500HD 4x4 with the Bushwacker cut-out flares ( http://www.bushwacker.com/chevy40051.asp )? This would be a great way for me to go since a 6" lift would make me too tall for my garage door. I was just going to settle for a set of 285/75-16 Wrangler MT/R's but may have to try these flares a 1" zero rate leaf ( http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/Zero%20Rates.htm ) for the rear and green keys to get another inch or so in the front. I would probably have to go with a custom bumper like the ranch-hand but I should then be able to run 315/75-16 MT/R's with no lift. Get the minimum ground clearance (under rear pumpkin) of 35's and keep a lower center of gravity (less likely to roll over on hills)

It would be painful to cut into the fenders though, I wonder if a cut-off wheel in the dremel would work as thin as the sheet metal is?

Should I go for it??

I'll add my two cents... Just bought a '01 Suburban 2500 8.1L. It has 325/60/r18 Nitto Terra Grapplers on 18x10 EVOs. No lift. They don't stick out with the stock fender flares. Some of the plastic in the wheel well has been cut, both front and rear. It rubs a little on tight turns, like parking lots and the rears rub when I turn into a store's driveway with some speed. I don't have pictures yet. I was planning on maybe getting a 4" Rancho lift to add some ground clearance.

Thanks.

John

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the HD trucks or z71s have a body lift from the factory. That guy's truck that you linked to sits higher than mine. I will post pics in a few hours.

Thanks.

I've got 305-70-16's, some t-bar cranking and replacement front bumper. Still had to shave some plastic up front. Doesn't rub unless you're hitting some pretty rough stuff while turning. It is rubbing the back of the front fender. Can't get rid of the fender though.

I'm running green keys up front and 2" rear blocks. The front is up about 2.5" from stock, not including larger tires. HD's sit 2" higher than a 2500 or 1500 so my 2+" lift puts me equal to a 1500 with a 4" kit. With tires it's about a 4.5" gain.

H2's have a 5.5" BS. If I crank the tires to the left and hit a driveway slope too fast it will rub just a tad but nothing to be concerned about. The air dam had to be trimmed too.
