Why wouldn't they just continue with their 2.7?

see what else out there is running 77.5 hp and 107.5 ft/lbs per cylinder? or maybe better to reduce it to the cc, 0.11397 hp and 0.15808 ft/lbs per cc....I'm sure you'll see some in the hp hunt but not many in the torque hunt to compete, it's a long stroke big jug motor so revs won't be there for the hp obsessed but it's brilliant for us 'truck guys'...they will need a short stroke with revs to compete on the hp stage, there's a lot of truck buyers who like sports car motors 😉, ie; the new ram hurricane inline six 3.0 liter gas twin turbski, 400 hp and 450 ft/lbs in standard output, 500 and 475 in high output, I'm sure the revs and boost are there, the  2.7 big jug long stroke is already in high output trim now in the 2022 refresh, and I won't even mod mine as it's more than I could have hoped for in ouput from that displacement, first time in history I've maybe said that about a motor in factory spec, I digress, this 3.0 seems to be proving itself, it would be the natural to convert to gas to take on the hurricane and the ford v6's....but gm will do well to leave the 2.7 to us true truck guys that just aren't into these 21st century emissions strangled diesels, it's gonna be an amazing next 20 years in gas motor turbos

4banger is on the right track here as there are rumors of GM dropping an inline 6 gas turbo to possibly replace the 5.3 or the 6.2 or they could do two versions.  The 3.0 Duramax and the 2.7T 4 cylinder are both based off the Cylinder Set Strategy engine family, so it would be entirely possible to derive a gas 3.0T or TT and then even so, GM could find a way to diesel variant the 2.7T for Colorado/Canyon use if they really wanted to.

The 2.7T would stay and not go away as it would still be the base offering.  And any future inline 6T or TT could make some sweet power too in theory.  The 2.7T is 77.5hp per cylinder.  Multiply that by 6 and we get to 465hp.  2.7T is 107.5ft.lbs torque per cylinder, X by 6 that's 645ft.lbs.  An engine like that would dust a current 6.2.

I know my math might seem odd, but I came up with some good guesses on the Stellantis 3.0TT by using the 2.0 Hurricane numbers.  The base 3.0TT makes 420hp 468tq, using the math I used above before its #s came out I was at 405hp 442.5tq using 67.5hp per cylinder and 73.75tq per cylinder from the 2.0 Hurricane engine.

I bet we see a gas powered version of this motor at some point. You heard it here first. They need a bit more jam over the 2.7 to keep up with ford/ram...the 2.7 pretty maxed out but I hear cummins is working on a gas powered 6.7 cummins, ford working on twin turbo 7.3 gas Godzilla, chev will be working on a heavy duty turbo to compete with the big boys also, so what will they do for the half ton gas turbo? I think it'll be this 3.0 converted. Great numbers with diesel so far!

10% more hp, 8% more torque....expect fuel economy about 9% less than before...real world. Fuelly.com averages on the 277/460 about 10.6 l/100km or 22.2 u.s. mpg so after a couple years of the new tune on Fuelly.com for overall averages bet you see about 11.5 l/100km or 20.5 mpg. I said it here first 😉

So you already know this engine will get less MPG? I’m willing to bet your wrong.  Worst case scenario  it’s the same. In this day in age where MPG/emissions is everything , you improve. But we’ll see

So the extra 9% power is fairy dust and unicorn tears? Or was it more air and fuel? Do you get more power by bumping compression perhaps? Just did quick math and the guess is wick up the boost which means wick up the fuel to go with. But you’re right, time will tell, should see it on fuelly after a couple years watching it. Still a rockstar on fuel consumption and power output so shouldn’t be much of a concern to anyone in the market.

Wow, this is good.  LB7 territory out of an all aluminum, emissions compliant inline 6 diesel.

unbelievable! I'm always hard on GM but this is freaking awesome. I DONT have to have the 6.2 on my next model , this oil burner is calling my name.

Do you think GM axes either the 5.3 or 6.2 ? As loved as the 6.2 ( including me) I think they can bring out a 3.0T motor making 450HP and 500+ TQ easily which would make the 6.2 a little obsolete. Please 6.2 guys know i share your love and passion for the 6.2 but even now RAM will go to the 3.0 Turbo motor they just put in the Wagoneer.

Will be interesting because the Big GM Twins are set for a refresh by next year , so i wonder if things will be changed for them too .

I predict exactly that, 3.0t gas will replace the v8's in the half tons, the v8s will get turbos for the 2500/3500's as they will be too powerful for the lighter duty half ton driveline/axles etc.
