Cluster LCD blank after SPS programming

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

have an interesting issue... I had updated the programming in my Radio to resolve issues relating to intermittent no audio and chimes when I start the truck in the winter. That program was successful.

However, I had also sent an update to the instrument cluster which seems to have completed successfully, but I have no lcd screen or certain indicator lights that come on normally. Gauges work. I can communicate with the cluster otherwise. Steering wheel buttons do not work as a result as well.

The truck is a 2015 Sierra Crew cab with IO5 Level radio.

Wondering if anyone else came across this issue and knows how to resolve this...

Came here to search the exact same issue with my 2016 Silverado 1500! I was having similar symptoms and used my VCX-NANO with SPS2 through Techline Connect to successfully reprogram a few modules last year with no issues at all. I was having ghost chimes, so I hooked it up again this week and saw the Instrument Cluster update available. It said it was successful, however only my gauges work. The DIC stays off, and I have no indicator lights at all except for the normal check engine light at startup.. no turn signal indicators, headlight indicators, etc. Cruise control are the only steering wheel buttons that work. I reflashed the calibration a few more times hoping it was a flashing issue, but nothing changes.

I am guessing that the latest Instrument Cluster calibration should not be flashed on all vehicles despite it appearing in Techline. I am aware that every TSB I have ever seen warns not to flash calibrations that aren't explicitly called for, but it's too late to undo that now. I'm going to try checking with local dealers, but is there a way I can flash the previous calibration version myself?

I was able to resolve this issue, sharing in case it helps someone in the future..

1) Instrument Cluster (IPC) updates need to be updated via USB after they are flashed. Thanks to William for the tip.

2) Some 2016 Chevrolet and GMC vehicles require an update to be flashed after the Android Auto upgrade (bulletin 16-NA-042) is completed to resolve USB update problems. Bulletin 16-NA-134 addresses this (see attached).
