Bed View Camera Help

Recommended Posts

So, I have a '22 CC LT and the only thing it doesn't have that I really wish it did is a bed view camera. I've searched several forums to see if it could be added, and up to this point, all efforts seem futile. Between modules and reprogramming to get the camera to show on the head unit, every lead ended up dead. We just got a new truck on the lot that has the bed view camera display in a small screen in the rear view mirror. And it is activated by a button on the camera; seemingly independent of any other module. I pulled the part numbers using that specific VIN:

85510310 Mirror

84601056 CHMSL with Camera

84859040 Camera Wiring

Does anybody have more knowledge that I do that my be able to discern if I bought these parts and put them on my truck, they would basically be plug and play. I can get pictures of the truck that has it and provide the VIN if that would help...Thoughts???

I have a 2020 and I remember a year or more ago I did come across a post somewhere that was talking about basically this exact setup, only it was mainly for the rear-view display and didn't really mention the bed view button.  The discussion then was that this is a separate system and all that was needed to make it work was the mirror, cable, and light with the camera.  There was NO programming involved.  Because the trucks were fairly new at the time, getting those parts were nearly impossible so the idea went away, but I'm in the same spot as you and really like the idea of a bed view like you are showing.

I had a 2021 2500 HD Denali that had a bed view camera, but it was accessed through the camera app and showed up on the in-dash display. I like the idea of a button on the mirror with the pic in pic display. It looks like it's much simpler to activate.

Just curious,  when the camera is not activated,  is the mirror a standard mirror?  I installed closed to the same setup but it was a rear view camera.  The camera points over the top of the bed and not down in your bed.  It was 100% plug in play.  You just had to buy the mirror, camera/center tail light and a cable.  The mirror plugged into a power connector in your head liner.

Most trucks already have the power connector.

the part list for rearview is below:

What you are doing does make sense is should be plug in play just as the above is all controlled by the mirror it self.

What chevy needs is a mirror that can switch between two camera, one for the bed and the second for rearview.

This will be an interesting thread to follow.

@KTDanforth Yes, It's just a standard mirror without the screen on... I haven't went searching for the plugs yet, but gen5diy has a rear view camera setup for sale on their site. And the truck they installed it in didn't have the plugs from the factory. I did send them an email suggesting a kit for the bed view camera. We'll see if I get a response before I look for the plugs in my truck...

This is an interesting setup. All the bedview I've seen has been through the specific bedview camera and into the head unit, but this requires a video processing unit. I'm wondering if with chip shortages, they've switched to this setup.

It looks really similar to the way the Rear View Camera Mirror works. As far as I know, that setup is a new taillight assembly with the rear view camera (different then bed view), and that camera needs a Fakra extension cable which then plugs to the mirror itself, and the mirror gets power from a harness in the headliner. There are some good posts in the non-HD T1 forums on this. It appears it would be wired this way.

I believe there are three taillight assemblies. One is Rear view, one is bed view, and one has dual cameras.

This is an example of that setup and they have some videos showing the install procedure.... 2019-2022 Silverado or Sierra Factory OEM Backup Rear Camera LCD Mirro - Infotainment.com

I'm interested in this too. I like the mirror controlling it with a switch. When looking into a VIN with an OEM rear camera they have a video controller where mine does not. I have a 21 SLE. I have a new High Mount 3rd brake light with camera. P/N 84699124

I was looking for the thread, I believe it is in the chevy 1500 mod section, but I attached the infortaintment video that has the walk thru.  The whole thing is plug in play, no programming.

Buy the parts yourself and save the money.   All are pretty cheap, except the mirror, I was able to find a take off mirror for about $300.  the rest of the parts were less than $150, so all in was $450.

good luck

I installed mine this weekend. I ended up taking the camera from the 84487008 and put it in a bed view third brake light lens (84699124) and installed. Turned out nice. Just need to get the trim for the wiring around the mirror.

Did you get everything buttoned up? Do you have any pics of the final result or install?
